I have an X301, slightly different from X300. I am very happy with it. The build quality is superb, light but very solid feeling. With 6 cell + 3 cell batteries, I can roam freely. I choose thinkpad because of the trackpoint and keyboard. Some complains that the black box design of thinkpad is boring, but it really helps me to concentration on my work instead of getting distracted by fancy and shining stuffs. I have to say that fine tuning the OS (XP in my case) requires a lot of work. Once that is done, I just love it. Of course, I have a list of complains, but nothing is perfect. This is definitely the best laptop that I can afford.

If you have any particular question, please let us know.

Ditto. Very happy with my X301. Was happy with my X300 before too except the SSD was too small (64gb). As for the screen, it's the topic of every other post on this forum. I'm happy with the screen and no one I've shown my X301 to has ever told me that my screen sucks.

I've had both the X300 & X301, and the displays have been very nice. The X300 got damaged beyond repair so I got the X301, but if I was doing it again I would stick with the 300. I like the overall form factor and it's refreshing to have a centered display not offset like the 61 series, which I avoided for that reason alone. Plus I didn't really need to upgrade from my T60's as they are going great.

And I'm writing this from my IdeaPad S10 Netbook, gotta love this little baby... super quality for a very low price. Got it with an ecoupon for just $367

I forgot to mention that the machine is very quiet and cool (temperature wise). My X60T starts to over heat after 1 hour of use (browsing and word editing), not too bad but distracting and uncomfortable. My X301 is like to cool rock under my palm. Very comfortable for working long hours on it.

I've had mine about 9 months now, and I'm really happy with it. Leaving aside the obvious practical things (excellent connectivity, easy to move around and great to travel with, good size keyboard and screen, built in DvD drive, all in one thin package). But if I had to name one thing I like best about the X300 it would be the outstanding build-quality.

Can you perhaps explain this a little more? I was looking at these, and I think I would prefer the x301 for the extra .2 GHz and the much better graphics processor (X3100 vs. X4500MHD).

@archer6 : Do you see noticable performance difference between X300 and X301?

I have it since September - and I love it. I travel every day with it - train, plane - and it is my main workstation.
64GB is enough for me as all my work is on servers.
Mine is completely silent thanks for TPFanControl running as a service.
I am going to get a new keyboard as my daughter broke the PgUp key - I can't really blame Lenovo for this.
I run Vista Ultimate 64 bits with 4 GB of RAM - so far so good.
Planning to upgrade 8GB of RAM to have more comfort with VMs in the coming months.

ThinkPad X300

I too am very happy with my X300 and so is my Wife with her's. The screen could be better, but then what about battery life. The X300 is the best that could be built at the time it was designed. David Hill and Company did a fantastic job.

Thank you,

Their is no perceptible speed improvement at just .2GHz difference. While I'm sure there is on a benchmarking test, it's certainly not enough to justify the higher price. As far as the graphics processor, again if you really _need it_ then perhaps' it's worth it to you. I like to keep things in perspective and I _do_ have a need for a faster graphics processor for my workstation class ThinkPad, but it also has a much faster processor. The type of work the x300 is designed for is easily accomplished with no compromises, whereas with the X301 it's simply my opinion it's highly overpriced for a nearly identical machine. Both are of the same excellent build quality.

Not at all. I expected to see a little, as I'm sure the benchmarks prove it. However in everyday use, even when taxing the resources, I see no noticeable improvement. Personally I feel the X301 is horribly overpriced.

Cheers.... :P

the price should go down just like the x300 price went down.

No doubt, like any other laptop, prices will plunge in time. No worries. As a seasoned early adopter, I'm well aware of the high price I pay... :D
