X300 - XP Rescue & Recovery

Hi All,

I have a Japanese X300 which shipped by default with VISTA Business. Lenovo Japan were also kind enough to include a set of recovery media for both VISTA Business and XP Professional, as well as have the on-board rescue and recovery partition (around 4.5 gig).

Originally, I deleted VISTA and installed XP via the recovery media provided. During the install process, I could not see a way to customise the install (I like my OS etc to be as light as possible - no bloatware etc)

From what I have read, it appears to be impossible to do a clean install of XP with what they have provided. Can anyone confirm? I wouldn't mind doing a clean install using another XP Pro CD, but am worried about the SDD drive controller drivers, as well as the special version diskeeper software (I remember reading these have been designed to work together to spread reads/writes more evenly across the drive).

Thanks,

Defragmentation (the main function of diskeeper) may shortern the lifespan of your SSD. I recommend a fresh install of XP. There are many online resources (some in this forum) that provide step by step instruction.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like I was mistaken regarding Diskeeper. Will set my system up for compatibility mode and do a fresh install!

Thanks!
