x301 type2776-LFG

#1 Post by bobsys » Thu Dec 25, 2008 1:57 pm

I bought this machine type 2776-LFG thinking I would be able to plug in my SIMM card and be able to make an internet connection using 3G. The SIMM card is activated to do so. There is a SIMM card slot under the battery but I cannot find any way to make a connection. The "Mobile Broadband connect" utility tells me there is no broadband device. The IBM helpdesk tells me that every x301 having a SIMM card slot should be able to use it. What to do ????

Every X301 has a SIM card slot and WWAN-ready antennas. But not every X301 has a WWAN (cellular broadband) card. It's optional. Sounds like you will have to buy one and install it yourself.

Yep the 2776-LFG definitely does not have a WWAN card, so as csv96 says, you have to add it yourself.

Lenovo have definitely tried to make it easier to add WWAN later (look for "WWAN upgradeable" in the configuration), but my advice is still to order the WWAN card installed when you buy the laptop.

You need to buy a compatible card. The ones on lenovo's website are quite expansive, but you do not have to worry about BIOS compatibility. They are locked to particular carrier though.
