cheaper alternative to x200

#1 Post by rhz » Thu Jan 01, 2009 8:06 pm

Hi,

I'm wondering about a cheaper (non thinkpad) alternative to the x200. I really love thinkpads, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to shell out more than $1000. Can anyone recommend high quality, cheaper alternatives? Do any exist!?

Thanks.

rhz

Take a look at the X61's and X61s's at Lenovo outlet.

If you want something similar in size to the X200 but can't afford $1000, you're probably looking for a netbook. I personally have the ASUS EEE PC 1002HA (~$500) but the HP Mini-Note 1000, Acer Aspire One, MSI Wind, and Samsung NC10 also get good marks. Beyond that, keep checking the Lenovo Outlet for some used X200's to start showing up.

I wouldn't bother. Would buy a cheap alternative to a Ferrari? Sure, there other cheap cars, but nothing close to the actual thing.

If you are just looking for a widescreen ultraportable and don't mind a generation or two old:
HP NC2400, HP 2510p, Dell Latitude D420, Dell Latitude D430

All are very well built. A few of the forum members here are fans of the NC2400. The 2510p is just the updated version.
