Processor Speed difference X300 - X301

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Sat Jan 31, 2009 12:33 pm

What is the performance difference between the
Core 2 Duo SU9400 1.40Mhz (in X301) to that of Core 2 Duo SL7100 1.20Mhz (in X300) Seems like not just higher frequency but also difference group of processors.

Set aside HD performance issues I am interested in pure processor speed comparison only.

This is not a typical Internet / Office computer.
It will execute several applications at the same time and on top of that the machine will always run another Virtual Machine (VMWare) inside. So it does need processor power as the internal VM takes substantial memory and CPU.

notebookreview.com has a review on X301, which compares the PCmark and 3Dmark scores of the two. You may find it at http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4603

the difference is about 14.28%. i don't think you will be able to notice that. plus remember that it is the hard drive which is the bottle-neck. however my x300 does feel a little bit slow with bloated software such as msword 2007, so getting that extra 14% cpu could make a difference. i would also recommand tweaking your vista.

That´s quite an interesting review. The PC Mark score difference is about 1k points... I guess it´s because of the bigger SSD and the new Intel graphics.
