My X200 left side USB Port is Magnetized?

#1 Post by cybersearcher69 » Fri Feb 06, 2009 8:46 pm

I just got a new X200 the P8700 2.53GHZ model. Build date 1/23/2009. I went to plug in a mouse to the USB port just next to the exhaust vent area and realized that this port is definitely magnetized. I tried other USB mice figuring maybe the plug on the mouse got magnetized somehow. But it is indeed the USB port on the X200 that is magnetized. I can literaly let the USB mouse cable just hang there and it stays attached!

The other ports are not this way. What gives?

fluke?

mine has nothing.

USB is not sensative to magnetism and its far enough way from the HDD it doesn't matter.

My friend's X200 left USB port is also magnetized, so don't worry about it. It's probably there by design.

Just to chime in on the discussion here: my X200s also has the magnetized usb port near the cpu vent on the left side. And to those who don't know what we mean: it's really clearly magnetized...it sucked the usb key right in like a kitchen magnet.

Lenovo's equivalent of magsafe? ...only completely pointless. :?

The magnet is there so it can latch the switch inside the left edge of the LCD case when the lid is closed -- the state of that magnetically-activated switch is what "tells" the machine whether the lid is open or closed.
