I am impressed with Diskeeper Pro with their additional software called Hyperfast for SSD drives.

I did not do any tests before I installed it but noticed a real increase in speed on my X301's 128gb SSD drive. I know these SSD drives are not "surposed" to need any defraging but I liked the info I read about the Hyperfast feature and am convinced it really works.

Does anyone have a test I can download to see if there were any real gains in performance. Hopefully you have the same machine/drive and we can compare figures. Please post where I can download so I can run and post the results.

It seems that SSD defrag can improve write speed...

Unfortunately, HDTune as well as HDTach are as of now not really suitable for testing SSDs. Some folks recommend ATTO instead.

My results from HDTune:

Transfer rates:
71.7 MB/sec Minimum
131.9 MB/sec Maximum
91.5 MB/sec Average

0.3 access time
126.9 MB/sec Burst Rate
CPU Usage 7.7%

Not sure if this is good or not, does anyone have this same test run on their 128SSD to compare with?

I don't think that SSD write speed results (your disk vs. someone else's) are directly comparable. Why? Because of data structure on the disk itself. To compare results someone should measure SSD write speed performance before and after free space defrag, using various file size...

Well I am not sure how HyperFast even works. Not sure if it something I can just turn off and then test, so we will never know. This is my second X301 with 128SSD and my perception is that is made my X301 more responsive.

Still wish some one would still post their results

unless offered concrete data evidence (from a place other than the company that is selling the product) it will just seem to me that those companies realized that HDD days are numbered and are trying to convince general public to buy their software.

That would be a good assumption for sure and I would be warry.

To keep from looking like I sell Diskeeper software I will not longer comment, but it is FREE to try for the trial period.

Yes, I think you're right...

But I think this free space fragmentation could really cause write speed degradation, unless internal SSD controller jumps in (and it does, but it has limits and sooner or later free space fragmentation will occur).

Few facts must be considered here:

SSD's free space will be fragmented sooner or later, and that combined with the fact that flash memory is considerably slower when writes small amounts of data (and if free space is fragmented, bigger files must be chopped to smaller) then overall write performance will degrade...

Take look at this article for write speed comparison of small vs. big data files (browse through pages)...

But I definitely agree that independent tests are required to really conclude something, and even if all of this is true, preventing performance degradation comes with the price of adding additional write cycles and in the end that leads to shorter SSD "life" length (FWIW I think that something else in PC will die before SSD malfunctions because of that)...
