SmartAudio tray icon won't die! Vista & X200t

I am trying to remove the Conexant SmartAudio tray icon from the Vista task bar, via the settings check box, but it reappears after reboot. I have tried changing the setting with and without Admin rights and can't find any reference to "SmAudio.exe" using HijackThis. Does anyone know how to get rid of this annoying tray icon?
