X301 - Trying to install clean Vista - Doesn't recognize CD!

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Tue Mar 10, 2009 2:21 pm

I just bought X301 with 128gb SSD
I always like doing clean installs.

So I inserted a Vista Installation DVD into the drive.
I choose the 'Install Now' option.

And I get this weird error:
"A requiested CD/DVD drive drive driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insent it now...."

What the hell is that? The DVD in INSERTED into the drive and Vista got up to this point just fine.

What can I do now??? It seems it doesn't recognize the DVD drive so I can't proceed to install Vista.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

It could be bad Vista installation media. I would check the hash of the media: copy the DVD to some working machine as .iso file and compute the hash with some hash calculator like Hashcalc, then google the hash/md5...

thanks marin,

the media is fine. i just used it to install my other brand new x200s (the x301s is my wife's) so anyway the media is just fine.

i suspect that has to do with the BIOS default to ACHI mode, I will try to change it to compatibility mode as some post suggested and will try again.

Actually, it should be able to install just fine with the HD set to AHCI. Now, when you mention BIOS, it could be also some setting concerning the CD/DVD drive within BIOS (I don´t have the smallest idea, so just blind-shooting here :) )...

Well. I disabled the AHCI and switched to Comatibility mode. I now tried to install Vista and it went just fine. I have read somewhere about this problem. I hope to be able to enable toe AHCI again later by installing the Intel Matrix driver and then reenable.

Hm, interesting... Glad that it worked. You should be able to install IMSM and switch back to AHCI without problems. Note, for the installation of IMSM, you will need to update the driver from Device Manager. It doesn´t come with setup.exe.
