X200 Tablet Screen-- Why is it so hazy and dim?

#1 Post by newt43 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 2:20 pm

Hi: I recently took delivery of an X200 tablet with touch. The screen is very hazy and not very bright. I have been reading that this is because of the passive digitizer--which allows it to accept finger inputs, but which also compromises screen brightness. My question is why my old Dell Axim X51v and my ipod touch manage to accept finger inputs while having incredibly bright and crisp screens? Why do we have to settle for less with tablet PC's? Is there some technological issue I'm not grasping here? :?

Did you set the screen to max brightness? Also, in BIOS there are settings for the screen brightness, you may want to check there. According to the specs from Lenovo, the tablet screens with LED-backlit are over 200 nit.
IBM Lenovo Z61p | 15.4'' WUXGA | Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 2x 2.16GHz | 4 GB Kingston HyperX | Hitachi 7K500 500 GB + WD 1TB (USB) | ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 | ThinkPad Atheros a/b/g | Analog Devices AD1981HD | Win 7 x86 + ArchLinux 2009.08 x64 (number crunching)

Yes, I did. I didn't check the bios-- I returned the machine instead and ordered one without touch. Several people have noted, however, the fact that the touch screen is hazy or "grainy." My question is why this has to be so? The ipod touch screen is bright and crisp, just like my standard LED screens. Why are tablets different? :??:

Which edition of LCD are you using? Multi-touch one?
Multi-touch LCD is not as bright as the ordinary LED LCD because of its multi-touch layer.
And it is very fragile of "pressure". Mine got dark spot after half year of normal use. Sucks
