Is it possible to work with thinkpad x301 only with bay battery? This configuration is not mentioned in x301 merchandising datasheet pdf.

Should be, but why would you not have the standard battery in too? Is that where you'll store your drugs?

You bet :D I ordered a model with 6 cell standard and 3 cell bay battery. Sometimes I only need few hours working time, so I just let my standard battery at home and save 300 g.

Do you have the original 3 cell battery too? I'm thinking about upgrading mine to the 6 cell but wondering about the extra thickness. I think I checked the dimensions and it was only about an extra 3mm?

My x301 with has no 3 cell standard battery included is only ordered and will arrive next week. I saw a x301 with 6 cell battery and it looks totally normal as the notebook stands just "flat" / horizontally. Doesn't look at all fat and the weight / hour ratio is better. With 3 cell it is standing not so horizontal. You'll find some internet reviews where reviewers didn't noticed that they were reviewing x300 models 6 cell batteries as they look so normal.

The more expensive bay battery is marginally lighter than the 3 cell standard battery. They both have around the same ratio for weight / hour - while the bay battery is completely inside the notebook. I wonder how the bay battery adds to system heat. On the other hand the 6 cell battery provides smallest weight / hour ratio but contrary makes your notebook marginally thicker.

Ah I see. I have the bay battery and it contributes no heat to the system whatsoever so I wouldn't worry about that. At the moment my X300 has a slight slant towards me so I think the 6 cell battery would just make it horizontal like you say. Good luck with your system, you're going to love it. :)
