X301 screen
X301 screen
I have had my X301 for about a week now. I am forcing myself to like it, but so far I am not impressed. Overall its a nice unit, but the screen is pretty sub par. No matter what I do with the color, brightness, contrast, and gamma settings, the screen has a washed out feel to it. After 10 minutes I get a headache and have to turn it off. Funny thing is, my T60 is fine as is every other screen I have used. For some reason this thing is way off and I can't make it better.
Anyone else have this problem? Any screen setting specifics to help? I use my notebook in low light a lot, so it is much more noticeable than during the day. Right now I keep using the old T60.......
edit: Sent in to lenovo for repair. Came back a LOT better. I don;t think I can get used to the widescreen though, so I am going to sell it.

Re: X301 screen, why is it SO BAD
My take on this, considering that I have the same two machines you are talking about, is that you may have a bad display. Mine is very bright, but is not dominated by blue as you are reporting. In addition, I also use mine in a low light condition when in my home office at night and the colors are quite accurate. Not only that, three other people in my company have them and after reading your post, I went and looked at theirs and they are all as clear and neutral as mine.Nubulin wrote:No matter what I do with the color, brightness, contrast, and gamma settings, the screen has an overly bright blue washed out feel to it. I would seriously give consideration to sending it back to get it checked out. I know based on personal experience that they have very fast turnaround times, so if you do decide to send it back at least you know that you will not be without it for long. I've also had very good service and they have always sent the computer back properly repaired and very clean. When I send mine in they are spotless and I've been most impressed as they are returned that way.
Hope this helps, and good luck.
Cheers...

Re: X301 screen, why is it SO BAD
edit: I just got it back from service and they did put a new screen in it. It is a LOT better than before and what I would conisder normal. The LED backlight still makes it washout slightly compared to a CCFl screen, but its a lot brighter, so I guess that is to be expected.

Re: X301 screen, why is it SO BAD
Hi Nubulin,
I've an X300 and my screen was also strongly biased in the blue. I've worked a lot to finely find these settings in the intel color control panel:
Red:
Gamma:1
Briteness: 5
Contrast: 47
Green:
Gamma:1
Briteness: -12
Contrast: 46
Blue:
Gamma:1
Briteness: -3
Contrast: 44
I hope it will help you to correct the problem. It worked perfectly for mine, but it's a shame for such a notebook to have to do this kind of tweaking.

Re: X301 screen, why is it SO BAD
Thanks for sharing. I also did some tweaking on intel color control panel and it helped me with contrast of the x301 very much. I just put gamma and brighness to lowest level for all colors and did not changed contrast level.littlestevie wrote: I've worked a lot to finely find these settings in the intel color control panel: (...)
If only the viewing angles would not be seen when just sitting in front of this display.
