I just bought this machine for $1603 and thought it is a good deal.

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU9400 (1.4GHz, 6MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows XP Professional
13.3" WXGA+ (1440 X 900) TFT, W/ Camera
4GB (2 X 2GB) PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory
128GB SATA 1.8" SSD Solid State Drive
Intel® WiFi Link 5100 (1x2 AGN)
3 Cell Lithium Polymer Battery (4.3 Hour Run Time)
Fingerprint Reader
Bluetooth
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500

They had others with a LED light instead of a camera. Same specs for $400 more.

Anyone know why?

I think it is just that the descriptions for the x301's are not all consistent in the outlet. All of the x301's come with LED backlit screen and all come with a camera.
I have also seen pricing that doesn't make much sense, so not sure why some would be $400 more. Was this for refurbished or new?

For people with a XP disk, it makes sense to buy refurbished Vista Ultimate machines and install XP. This way the recovery will be Vista Ultimate. Even machines that come preloaded with XP has a Vista recovery; not XP.

I have only found "redistributed" machines to be with XP. Obviously refurb machines are much cheaper and have more to choose from.
