Hey guys, so now I got my brand new x301 - it feels like a really nice machine. One of the reasons I hate VAIO systems is because it comes with TONS and TONS of various pre-loaded software which needed to be cleaned out every time recovery tool is used to restore system to the original factory state. I really like the recovery system in x301, and Windows isntall is relativelly clean, however there are still some procceses which I feel are unnecessary. Ideally speaking I would like to be able to pin point every single process and registry entry currently runing, why is it there and have a clear understanding whether I really need it.
For example by default it runs presentations director and camery utility, those utilities are not eating up much resources, however small utility there and here - makes up on total performance. I'm looking at auto-run entry and having difficulty identifying certain programms. For example this
"C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution\cssauth.exe" silent
general comment on the internet is that this is Lenovo client security suit, however what exacltly does this programm do is not clear, hence I may need it, may not need.
If I paste in my log from HIJACKTHIS , will someone who is experienced in those matters will be able to identify process installed ?
In fact this could be a very usefull sticky manual for those who are willing to clear up to clear up their start up sequence, have general boost in perofrmance of the machine and have complete control as to what is happening on PC.
Your responses are much appreciated !

Client Security.
Of the ThinkVantage Tools I only use Power Manger, Hard Drive Protection, System Toolbox and UltraNav.

This has been done a few times in the past and there are really many threads on the Lenovo applications, in particular referring to windows startup.elvair wrote:In fact this could be a very usefull sticky manual for those who are willing to clear up to clear up their start up sequence, have general boost in perofrmance of the machine and have complete control as to what is happening on PC.
I second FredGarvin´s selection of TV tools as I have the same on my ThinkPad except for the UltraNav. I don´t use it because so pressing Fn+F8 opens for me mouse properties where I can access all settings including the trackpoint/touchpad ones. Also, since you have a X301, I assume it has a SSD, hence no need for Active Protection.
You can always post a log of Hjjackthis, but I don´t think it would be of much use (and rather kind of overkill) since it´s pretty clear what applications are included in the preloaded Lenovo image. Also, it´s pointless to try to get rid off single processes. What one needs to do here, is to uninstall applications. Attempts to get rid off processes only mean to stop services, delete components etc, which in the end leads to malfunctioning programs, hence one is always better off by just uninstalling the entire program.
Also, if you want to get a very detailed view of what is loading in windows, I would recommend you Autoruns utility by M$ sysinternals.
Cheers,
Marin
