Mobile broadband device on x301
Mobile broadband device on x301
Hi all,
When I was buying my x301 there was an option to choose which provider for mobile broadband I wanted to have. At a time I didnt want to sign up for any provider, and I cliked "mobile broadband upgrdable". I assumed that mobile broadband modem should be in built into the system in any case scenario. Now when I click "mobile broadband connect" utility within think vantage package, it tells me "mobile broadband device not found", does that mean that clicking "mobile broadband upgradable" actually removes WWAN modem from the system and I dont have it in my machine ?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Mobile broadband device on x301
No. It indicates that the WWAN antennas and a socket for an internal WWAN modem are fitted in the laptop. A WWAN modem is not fitted.elvair wrote:I assumed that mobile broadband modem should be in built into the system in any case scenario.

Re: Mobile broadband device on x301
Wow !
So that means, if I would have choosen some WWAN provider when customizing my system, then WWAN modem would 've been fitted ?
I presume that WWAN modem is standard, in a sense that different ISP would not use different WWAN modems, is that correct ?
How do I fix that stuff , is in, how do I get WWAN modem pluged in ?
:/

Re: Mobile broadband device on x301
The reason that Lenovo asks us to chose a provider is that the wwan cards are _not_ the same. As an example, AT&T uses GSM technology (Global System for Mobile communication), whereas Verizon uses CDMA, a completely different system. Therefore one must choose their provider so the correct wwan card may be assembled into the computer. While I have not researched it, I would guess that this is a user serviceable part, which you can purchase separately from Lenovo and install oneself.

Re: Mobile broadband device on x301
I see - Make sense, so I should check what standards are used by my choosen ISP and get card accordingly...
As for the installation - I checked lenovo web-site and found this
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-71378
is that correct WWAN removal installation guide ? And was this meant to be done by USER ?

Yes, you understand perfectly. Simply order the correct card from Lenovo and follow the directions at the link you posted and you will be all setup to enjoy broadband access.elvair wrote:I see - Make sense, so I should check what standards are used by my choosen ISP and get card accordingly...As for the installation - I checked lenovo web-site and found this
