New config options for X301 at Lenovo UK's online shop

#1 Post by LondonConsultant » Tue Apr 21, 2009 5:51 am

I just browsed the X301 configs at Lenovo UK's online shop and noticed some nice new options: 1.6GHz CPU, multitouch trackpad, and 250GB HDD. I guess that also means there won't be an "X302" for quite a while...

MacBook Pro (Core i7 2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15"HR)

The most interesting part is the 1.6GHz upgrade states [subtract £825.93]. If only I needed a second laptop :| .

On the U.S. site the upgrade to 1.6ghz processor is an additional $8,402.00  :BAAAD!: obvious mistake...

what a joke though!

Has anyone ever had a shot at ordering something, like in this case from the UK site, when there was such an obvious mistake in your favour? What do you think Lenovo would do:

(A) Honour the transaction at the lower price.
(B) Honour the price, but ship the slower processor.
(C) Cancel the transaction and ask you to do it again at the real price, if you want.
(D) Ship the goods and try to charge the real price.

It is funny you should say that.....it seems some people have tried in the past with mistakes...but I don't know what the end result was....

If you advertise it at a price then shouldn't it be honoured? Some countries have strict laws regarding that....

I read over at lenovo forums some guy tried to buy like 20 laptops once...when the T61 was at $99.00....insane mistakes.

They also have a multitouch touchpad option available now for about $10K more... combine the two for a nice $20,000+ laptop! :)

Even Engadget has now picked up on the pricing errors on these new options:

Yesterday on the US site, one could order the latest version of Norton anti-virus for an additional $9,990.00.
.
While obviously a mistake, what I find so surprising is that these types of mistakes are so common and Lenovo doesn't seem to care much. When I called in to place an order, I mentioned this to them and they were very nonchalant as though it was of little importance. If anything they seem to be happening with increasing frequency.
.
Very telling indeed....

The processor upgrade option is long removed, but the multitouch touchpad is still there, now free, rather than $9,000+ (US store).

Slight discount over previous configuration. ;)

I don't understand. Does that mean there never was a 1.6GHz upgrade? I was hoping they just had the price wrong or maybe it's scheduled at a later date?

I know what you mean. For just one day there was the option to chose a 320GB 7200rpm drive while ordering the T500 Elite, I jumped on it and glad that I did because it was gone the next day. I haven't seen it on the site since.

Cheers...

Drives and memory are easy to upgrade post-purchase, though -- CPUs and touchpad options much less so. My Hitachi 5K500.B cost only about $100, less than any decent drive upgrade from Lenovo, and it's quieter and more power-efficient to boot.

Of course, I ended up buying a TopSeller rather than CTO since all the X200s CTO models were showing 4+ week delivery times; I had my X200s in my hands the next day.

Very True and that's usually what I do.

However for just $45 to go from a 160GB to a 320GB@7200, plus being a Hitachi Travelstar, it was worth it.

Check out page 139 of the tabook: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf

It lists an x301 2776-27U with a 1.6Ghz processor. The marker notes that it was "announced" April 21, 2009.

I took advantage of that amazing "CPU Deal", on top of that I found some current coupon as well, which took it even lower. All in all with top specs it was 900 pounds. Amazing deal, thank you very much Lenovo!

Arrived today promptly !

Since I already have x301, I think I will be looking to sell one ...

Aaaaargghhh!!! I also spotted that “deal” on their site and ordered 2 x 301’s (one for me and one for my girlfiend) but at the EPP price they came out at £601 each!

Unsurprisingly Lenovo spotted it and cancelled the order. Shame.

elvair, I’ve PM’d you if you are interested in selling your latest 301, assuming it’s still sealed and boxed ….

Appologies if that conversation is getting a bit off-topic here, however the way I see my future TP is like this:

I will most kilelly keep the 1.6 TP for myself and will be looking to get rid of 1.4

Its a perfectly fine machine, several months old, certainly I will be willing to negotiate an appropriate discount on it, since it is used unit. Please do let me know if anyone would be willing to express interest in that - please feel free to PM me and we can talk further !

Thanks!
