New wierd and misconfigured x200

I just bought a new x200, not from a retailer, but a private person reselling it (bought through a company deal)

In many ways this thinkpad x200 is wierd :)

First of all, when I tried to look up the warranty, the machine didn't exist. So I called Lenovo support, they told me that the machine had the status of not having left the factory yet. He said that this happened sometimes and that I would have to send them a copy of the original reciept. (This call was of course made before I bought it :) )
The seller emailed them the receipt and I have confirmation from Lenovo that they recieved it, and that it will take up to 4 days for them to update their system.

Here comes the wierd part :) The hardware configuration is wrong, compared to the data Lenovo has on file.
This is their description:

Product: ThinkPad X200 7458-AU2 [change]

Original description: Based on 7458-69U: P8600(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1GB Ethernet, Secure chip, X200 UltraBase+CDRW/DVDRW, Camera, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

But the machine haven't got a camera
And I might be wrong, but I don't think that "Intel 802.11agn wireless" is the same as the "Intel wifi 5300" which it has.
It also has a Vista bussiness license on the back, but the support guy told that that was normal, and that it would be ok for me to use the Vista recovery discs that I have to my other X200 :)

When I asked the support guy what I should do about the camera, well he actually spend quite alot of time trying to explain how it looked, even though I said numerous times that I knew what it looked like, as I have another X200 :) then he said that I would have to contact to original retailer, and that they should send it in to lenovo so they could change it.
But I suspects that this machine will have 3 years onsite warranty, and I asked if they couldn't come out and change it, and he said that the technicians newer put anythin new in the machine, they ONLY replace parts, so that was out of the question.
Another funny thing is that the original retailer is Lenovo :) sold directly to IBM :)

Has anyone else tried getting a thinkpad thats configured wrong? How did it get solved, because I realy don't wan't to spend time sending in a brand new X200, with the risc of them making toolmarks on it.

I think the wireless is correct -- 802.11agn is just a generic description. I did find another 7458-AU2 on the 'net, and it has the 5300 as well:

However ... webcam is something else. Did the seller tell you it had a webcam? Otherwise I would suspect an incorrect description first rather than incorrect assembly at the factory.

I got the type nr.:7458-AU2 from her, and when I looked it up on lenovo, it showed it to have a camera. Also the support guy told me that the machine SHOULD have a camera, and he said that it was a mistake from the assembly line :)

Wait until you get the machine then look up the shipped parts online based on the mach type/model/serial on the bottom stickers. If there is still a mismatch then post back with the discrepancies.

I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear but I allready have the machine, and I have checked with the type/model/serial on the bottom stickers. There should be a camera, and there isn't :)

Did you do the (warranty and) parts lookup for your serial number on the Lenovo web site?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OOK-WARNTY

Oh yes, about the description specifying "WinXP". What that means is that it has the Windows XP pre-installed on the hard disk -- it will still have the Vista sticker and licence, and most likely your recovery disks will be for Vista as well (mine were). Basically Lenovo is still shipping Vista licences, but Microsoft is allowing them to give users Windows XP as an option.

I would, but I'm waiting for Lenovo to upgrade their systems, I still only get "Information for Warranty was not found."
I don't think the support guy believed me when I said the computer didn't have a camera. :)

Well, when I said " look up the shipped parts ", the only way to do that is through the warranty screen that tomh009 mentioned. So, perhaps I was not specific enough, but that is what I meant.

You can't look up parts on the system either, I just get this "Information for parts lookup was not found. Please click the browser back button and try again.

I just have to wait until Lenovo gets the machine status updated.

The more I think about it - the more it appears to me that Lenovo is a screwed up company. They are making totally unacceptable mistakes , which would ve been funny if only they were not so stupid. :) IBM buyback the thinkpad and make quality product again please ! :)

We really don't know the answer on this particular case yet.

As for me, I have been very pleased by the quality of both my X61 and the new X200s, both built by Lenovo.

I think this is very over-generalized statement!
