What is best compatible wwan for x300 ?

#1 Post by folwarczny » Sun Apr 26, 2009 3:45 pm

Hello guys

I have bought x300 and looking for a wwan card. I know I will have to install zender bios, but what about wwan card - I know there are few issues like lights not starting or something so if I am before to buy, I would like to know which one is best compatible :)

Can you guys let me know what should I choose? ( if that is important - card would be used in europe - exactly in Poland)

Thanks in advance for all answers

The best one that is compatible is the orginal one from Lenovo. But they cost 200+Euro's. You can also search for a Sierra Wireless MC8775 one from eBay for around 70euro's shipped from the UK. With this one you need to patch your bios and use tje Sierra Wireless software to 'control' the wwan card.

I bought that MC8775 one yesterday from eBay so I have to figure out how to get it running, but reading on these forums it shouldn't be that difficult.

Yes I noticed that model of sierra is cheaper, but I have also read lot of opinions with different cards and problems like misfuncitoning in os (have to reset each time you turn off card to turn it on again, having your icons not showing etc). Can you send me any feedback how you configure it and how it works for you?

The card arrived today (Sierra Wireless MC8775). First I flashed my X300 (model 6478-14G) with the modified Bios from Zender. Installed the card. Dowloaded the 3G Watcher Software from Sierra Wireless and installed it on my Windows 7 RC installation. This software also installed the needed driver and all works fine.

With the 3G Watcher Software you can connect/disconnect the 3G-connection.

Works all very well. I got my MC8775 card for around 67euro inc shipping from ebay.

What makes me wonder - how you turn on and off a card ( battery saving) ? It works somehow with access connection, hardware switch or other way ?

To completely turn-off the 3G-card I created a shortcut to the 3G-network-adapter on my desktop and just use right-mouse-button and click 'disable'.

You can also get the Fn-F5 key combination working, but you have to do some editing for that, search this forum about how to do that.

I have a Ericson F3507g that I was using with my W500 and it was working great in that --

I've sent a PM to Zender to see if I can get the BIOS for the X300 to allow me to try it in there. (I guess that's the proper way to do it? I'm new here..) I'll let you know how it works out.
