SL9600 option on X200s!

#1 Post by jmb0008 » Tue Apr 28, 2009 7:14 pm

Just saw Intel SL9600 option (2.13GHz, 6MB L2, 17W, 1066MHz FSB) on X200s config page. How long has this been up? 17W, 2.13Ghz, under USD$1500 soooooo cool! I have been looking at x200/x200s/x301 for some time now but this narrows the decision for me. My only reservation now is lack of displayport (or HDMI) on x200(s). I can get over the lack of touchpad. What do you guys think?

Get an x200 Ultrabase to go with it....has a displayport.

Well, cooler still (by 7W in the TDP!) is the SU9600 which is 1.6GHz which has a 10W TDP.... :D

wow interesting. I would have picked up that option in a heartbeat. alas, I am also not thrilled that lenovo severely cut prices since I got the x200s in late january :(

meh, maybe i'll just manipulate the multiplier to get 2.1ghz with my sl9400 ;)

Ultrabase is a fine solution, but I dont want to have to buy a $200 displayport adapter that I wouldn't otherwise need.

True, but, the crunch capacity of this little guy is approaching the threshold of a mainstream C2D in terms of horsepower using 1/3 less juice!!!!

Sounds.......... safe  . Imagine what this bad boy could do........ 8)
Is there a lot of OC'ing with x series?

PS.... 1.8" hdd in x301 makes me cry!!!! I assume there are no viable alternatives to the OEM disks?

Let's be fair...it was not Lenovo that "severely cut the price" but rather the continuing downward pricing that we experience with all components that comprise computers.
.
Lenovo simply "adjusted" their pricing, thereby passing on the savings to their customers. A smart move to remain competitive and to show their ability to be a nimble competitor.

I would not take this as it's "gone" but rather just another one of the many errors that I see each day on the site. You might be surprised and find it appear again at any time. If you are truly interested in this option I would encourage you to go to the site twice per day and look for it. When you least expect it you may find it's back.

I was looking for a larger 7200rpm hard drive than the (then) current 200GB, for the T500 I was about to order. I watched for a week as the 200GB disappeared and never returned. Just one day before I was about to give up and just get the default 160GB drive, a new drive was listed: 320GB x 7200rpm. I placed my order immediately and by that afternoon the 320 option was gone, never to return again.

So the bottom line is if you plan on ordering online, it bodes well to watch until you find what you want and then be prepared to ordered immediately before the configuration you want is gone.

Cheers...

That's generally irresponsible of Lenovo. Either offer and option, or don't. Having to treasure hunt for errors or half-hour windows of opportunity is terrible, terrible SOP. I can't for the life of me understand why the makers of the best laptops in the world have a third rate error-laden site. It stops being funny or quirky very fast. If I had any official or business connection to Lenovo, I'd be embarrassed.

Funny, those announcements say it's for Lenovo Europe, Middle East, and Africa with product availability in May. The SL9600 option "error" was also on the US based site. Lenovo is such a tease. I'm waiting for my SL9400 equipped X200s and I will be really upset with Lenovo if the SL9600 comes out after I receive mine. Should I cancel my order and wait until May?

Very well said, I could not agree more.

In my opinion it's simply mind boggling that Lenovo runs their site this way. But it's true, as I've visited it twice daily over the last few months while selecting a couple of new ThinkPads that I want. In near disbelief I've watched this incredible show of disorganization in awe.

Never have I witnessed such irresponsible behavior on the part of a large scale enterprise. Simply amazing.

I think the SL9600 is quite a great option for such a small laptop, if I had the opportunity, I would definitely go for it. And no OverClocking on this little baby :BAAAD!:

Lenovo did an order for a x200s with the sl9600 on tuesday, maybe they got a small batch of the chips and sold them all, or maybe I'll be using the reliable old thinkpad for much longer than the expected ship date (end of next week)...

Well, what I was referring to more was the fact that there was at least 2-3 months from dec-jan/feb where lenovo sold the x200s at list price without any discount presumably because it was in short supply and high demand.

I got it by mistake; when Lenovo website did update during this month. It is no more available right now. Maybe they will add it later. It's the fastest low voltage CPU in the world with 128GB SSD it will be amazing. I will sell it in eBay around $2700.00. It is a good deal for people they love fastest mobile computer with tablet mode beside the all connectivity availability such as WiMax and WAN.
