Vista won't accept password, help logging in as hidden admin

Hi.
I have a ThinkPad x200 (if it makes a difference, the one without a fingerprint scanner), and (long story, but I'll try and be quick) Vista won't accept the correct password. So I did some research and found out someone had a similar (or same-I got the computer from a family member that got a new computer to replace this one since they had the problem, which is why I don't know every detail) with a Gateway desktop tower, and the response to that was to login using a hidden admin account (in this case) launched using safe mode, which I found out how to do... but it didn't work. I couldn't get to safe mode using the F8 method I heard. So then I found out something specific to another ThinkPad notebook: What I heard I was supposed to do on another thread or website, was to wait 1 second after the ThinkPad screen appears, and press F8 repeatedly about twice per second, until the menu appeared. This still didn't work, although I tried it on my Compaq desktop, and got to a menu that was different from the one described (I'll link the page below), where launching in Safe still didn't show the admin account. So, really I'm asking, what do I do now?
Thanks in advance.
