Games playable on x200s

#1 Post by spikex34 » Tue May 19, 2009 10:01 pm

I know this is a futile idea, since the x200s is an ultraportable and has integrated graphics. But I really don't know much about recent games, so I'm wondering whether any of these would be playable on any settings:
Bioshock
Command & Conquer 3
Deus Ex
Doom 3
Far Cry
Gears of War
Medal of Honor Airborne
Oblivion
Rainbow Six Vegas
Prey
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Supreme Commander
UT3

Thanks in advance...

They are all possible, but that is really it. The older games will of course perform better than the newer ones.

What about Diablo III?

Edit: Blizzard says System Requirements will be released at a later date.

You will most likely be able to play it, but just don't expect much.

You have to remember that Thinkpads are business laptops - they can do things like gaming, but they really weren't made with that in mind so they are lacking GPU power.

If your looking for gaming power maybe you should be looking at an IdeaPad Y730 instead of a Thinkpad.

for X200 (same video chip)
Source engine stuff runs great at lower detail

Portal is playable.
HL2 ep2 is playable.

It's still not up to par (no AA support what-so-ever), but its faster than the X1300 in my T60 by quite a bit, which is shocking for something with intels name + video....

CnC3 is completely playable on my X200 on low settings at 1280x800.

Super old topic I know, but I am curious how you get around the requirement for a CD or DVD to be in the drive? Do you use a patch to play without a disc or did none of these games require it? I might load a few older games on my x201i, but not sure how I will deal with the DRM issue of needing the disc in the drive.

how you get around the requirement for a CD or DVD to be in the drive?
1. A CD/DVD drive that connects to the laptop
2. IMGBurn or other software that can make disc images
3. Daemon Tools or similar virtual CD drive software
4. Lots of HDD space

you're gonna have a hard time trying to run demanding games on the c2d ULV processor with its integrated graphics solution. you could opt for a vidock external gpu setup, bu the cpu still probably couldnt handle those games very well so there'd be a lot of bottlenecking.

My friend had trouble playing StarCraft II on the R61 unit I lent him...
That has a stronger processor and dedicated GPU over the X200s.

I was barely able to play new game on my X61T with its 1.66 GHz C2D, but playing emulated Sega Saturn games was fine.
Not that the X200 isn't a fine machine, but for gaming ThinkPads don't do well.. unless its a W700 or W520, T430 etc...
