Any trick to getting the Display Port to work on X301?

have a new X301 and a Viewsonic monitor with DVI port. I bought a Display Port to DVI adapter (
http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?c ... &sku=54131) and vendor assures me there is no driver or other hijinks necessary to make it work. The X301 is completely oblivious to me plugging in the monitor via display port. I search the forums and see that some users are running HD TVs and big monitors via Display Port. No amount of digging in display properties, updating Intel graphics card drivers, tinkering with ThinkVantage display properties, add new hardware, or basically anything has gotten me anywhere. I even tinkered in teh BIOS looking for a setting.
It just doesn't see a monitor there. Any ideas?

well its either the cable, monitor, or your laptop.
I can say that when I plug in my displayport on my x301 to my monitor (which is a displayport->diplayport cable) it automatically detects and mirrors the display to the external monitor, so something is definitely wrong with either your cable or monitor if we assume your laptop isnt defective.

Like hofan41, my x301 works with displayport - displayport cable. Maybe if you have an apple store local to you, you could try to see if they'll let you connect to their newer displays which I believe are displayport.
That would eliminate the laptop being the problem.

Well, I guess if anything I lean toward suspecting the adapter. It isn't clear to me whether the adapter is just a dumb set of straight through connections just changing port shape of if the adapter has circuitry inside it to do some kind of active translation. I do know that it does not need a driver (like a USB->serial adapter).
It would be nice if I could rule out the monitor and the displayport on my x301 but I just don't have any easy access to a displayport monitor.
