X200 Parts question...

#1 Post by DarkThinker » Mon Jun 22, 2009 3:14 pm

Hello everyone, I have a quick question:
Can a Palmrest (with fingerprint reader) be swapped from X200s and installed in my X200?
As far as I know, the X200 and X200s are nearly identical in Physical form factor no?

Thanks :)
Sam

If you're thinking of swapping a palmrest with fingerprint reader with the default one without a fingerprint reader, you may be out of luck. There's an extra connector going from the fingerprint reader to the motherboard. If your motherboard doesn't have this connector, then having a fingerprint reader is kinda useless. If the connector is there, however, then it will be possible. I suggest that you open up the laptop to check before purchasing this new palmrest.

I have no doubt my laptop has the connector. It just wouldn't make sense to design two boards just for the lack of the fingerprint option.

But I wanted to be %100 sure, so I cracked open my X200 for the first time and gave it a dust clean up while I was at it and snapped a Photo too:

Sure enough I do have the connector
