I'm getting an X200 Tablet (7448) and have noticed that it is only SATA I.

Does that mean that one of the new (sometime in the next 2 weeks) Intel SSDs would be a waste of money?

tabook listed in the first sticky. Looking at the page for the 7448 model x200, shows only 1.5 Gb speed for HD....

Are you saying it's really SATA II (3.0 Gb)?

In this case, I have ordered with a HDD, and am considering an SSD when Intel releases their new devices in a couple of weeks. The Tablet is not being ordered with an SSD from Lenovo, and it is a 7448 model.

In this case, is it still SATA II capable if I replace the HDD with an SSD in the future?

The answer is yes, with the caveat that I have not actually installed an SSD in an X200 and verified that.

Perhaps someone out there who has actually done an X200 SSD upgrade can chime in?

Also search around and you may find mention in one of the many threads on the SATA I/II support subject.

I'd like to point out that the place SSD wins in real-world use is nil seek times; this is unaffected by the bandwidth restriction on SATA I.

When I had an X200 Tablet, I had an OCZ SSD in it, and it was a vast improvement over my previous HDD (a 200GB Hitachi 7K200). I'm not sure about SATA I vs SATA II, but I have always heard that the X200t does have SATA II, whereas the older T6x/X6x machines only had SATA I.

I am using the Intel SSD on my X61, which has only SATA 1.5 Gb speed. Since traditional hard disks never reach such speed, and the X61 was introduced before SSDs became affordable, that's understandable. I have hard that X200 series support SATA 3.0 Gb, but I cannot verify that since I don't own one.

But the fact is, even though my X61 supports only SATA 1.5 Gb, the speed improvement over my Hitachi 7k200 hard disk is highly significant. Such speed improvement is definitely worth the price of the SSD, not to mention the elimination of the grinding noise of a traditional hard disk.

There was some confusion on whether or not the X200 is limited to SATA 1.5. The official answer is that all current Lenovo Montevina platforms (including the X200 series) are capable of SATA 3. This means that the X300 is limited to SATA 1.5, but the X301 is not.

OK, so even though I will receive my x200 tablet with what is identified in the tabook as a 1.5 (SATA I) HDD, if I replace it with a SATA II (3.0) SSD, then it will automatically (?) detect and run at 3.0 Gb?

Can anyone confirm as to whether the new X200 Tablet is restricted to 1.5 GBS ? I have been reading 1.5bps and 3.0Gbps on different posts..

How do you actually test/tell if you are running in I or II mode.
