Just got my X300 and unfortunately I discovered a new problem, besides the fan noise and the lack of RPM control (fans). The speakers plop!
I'm somewhat addicted to classical music so I listen to it very often. With my T400 I never had any plop problems, but now - especially when I for example do a system update diagnose so that the system has to process some information - the speakers plop from time to time. It's very annoying.
I thought to have the latest AUDIO drivers, because I'd installed them with Thinkvantage System Update. However via Device Manager in windows, microsoft found some new drivers. This driver update however didn't kill the plops.
What else can I do, before calling tech/warranty support?

Re: X300 speakers 'plop'
To be honest X301 is an amazing piece of engineering but those problems you mentioned and the lack of a docking port and express card slot don't put it on my top list of laptops...
Though I haven't had any problems with my speakers under Vista, XP or Fedora 11.
Are you using the latest Bios? Maybe try to reinstall the OS again and see what happens?

yes it's the latest BIOS, I've upgraded it with the Thinkvantage System Update software. Actually I just reinstalled the whole system
