I am new to this mod, but for those of us who have x200s with led (wxga+ or wxga), could be possible to use Boe-HyDis HX121WX1-100 AFFS led panel as an alternative?

http://www.beck-oled-lcd-tft-display.de ... X1-100.pdf

This panel has very good specs
a w520, a couple of T60@T61, a affs modded x201 and some other older stuff.

Heck, if someone finds a seller of this in the UK I'll replace the panel in my machine right away.

er....unless I've missed something...I don't think it'll fit.

The Boe Hydis website lists that panel as 1024x800.

Just registered so I can offer some advice on the Boe Hydis HX121WX1

1) The Boe Hydis website summary is incorrect. ALL other information including the .pdf states the panel as a 12.1" 1200*800 screen

2) I registered so I can tell you NOT to try purchasing this screen from Invertor Central. They list the HX121WX1 as "on sale today". Not the case. I ordered back in August. They have an on-line status system which later mentioned the order had changed to a Samsung PVA screen. No questioned asked. Suffice it to say, I have lost a lot of sleep dealing with a company who make the rules up as they go along: "compatible products", deleting my messages, and generally failing to understand I ordered a Boe Hydis HX121WX1 and wanted a Boe Hydis HX121WX1. They sent the Samsung, but I refused to accept the delivery returning to sender in the US. I am currently working with Visa to recover my money.

Look elsewhere unless you 1) know someone in this company who will send you what you ordered 2) Enjoy roulette

In general, Flexview displays are very very rare. So I take it to heart that unless I see an actual picture of the screen I'm purchasing, I'm not risking my money on a "compatible" screen. The same goes for many ebay sellers that sell compatible screens. You have to watch out for those.

I decided to try this mod on my wife's wife's laptop. The screen had cracked near the latch (she was very careful with this computer and never carried it anywhere), customer service said they would repair it but some lacky in the repair shop returned it apparently on his own and without regard to any communications with us or Lenovo's customer service department.

Even though I have zero experience in repairing something like this but I decided to try out this mod anyway. Ordered the HV121WX4 AFFS screen from EBay (derrick.ny). Removing the touch screen and digitizer was easy and within an hour I had swapped out the LCD screen. My wife who had been quite doubtful is very happy with the beautiful display. The only downside was Lenovo's inept response to this situation but for a little over a $200 we have a much better laptop than the product Lenovo sent us.

That screen looks quite nice. I just saw it on the ebay site:

Did it fit well?

Thank you for the info gilbo. I won't buy at inveter central.

I would love to try to mod my x200s with wxga+ led panel with a HX121WX1. If I ever find a good supplier and a decent price I will try it.

How do you find your laptop with the SSD in it? Is it pretty quick? I am sort of debating between the X200 Tablet, X200 and X200S. I will most likely want to mod my screen as well if I end up getting the X200 or X200S. How is battery life on yours after the screen mod?

The SSD had made more of a difference to the overall noise of the x200s rather than the speed I feel.
I have the 4cell battery and I can easily put the new screen towards the lower end of the scale (5 bars) and it is ample bright enough. I tend to get just under 2 hours. I am hoping for longer with the 9cell I just ordered.

I would wait until the Micron SSDs are available Q1'2010. The specs look great. I have the Crucial 128GB and I feel it could be snappier if truth be told. Crucial seem to be suffering from firmware issues as well which is not such great news. Firmware is delivered later than for OCZ users and some users are experiencing slowdown etc. I may change my SSD next year when I build a second x200s with this type of screen for my business partner.

Are you getting Sata 3.0 or 1.5 on you 200s? I was sort of debating between getting the SSD from Lenovo or just getting one from OCZ or Intel and doing my own installation after. Your thoughts..?

I believe I am getting SATA 3.0.
I did a HDTach run and I seem to remember the numbers were as expected from SATA 3.0.
I personally would go for a third party SSD. If I was buying right now I would wait for the Micron ones. Should be next Qtr (Q1'10).

Actually just fitted an anti-glare filter to my AFFS x200s and I have to say it's fantastic. The display is now matte with zero reflection and glare. Filter was really easy to fit and it doesn't affect brightness at all.

Here is the link. Got it shipped from the US.

Only thing I didn't receive were the cleaner products but I've emailed them about that.

Would it be too much trouble to see some clear shots of the screen with and without the filter? Or is it on there permanently?

As for applying these screen protectors I find doing it in a bathroom just after a shower is best. The steam clears the air of all dust and ensures that you get a perfect application.

Sorry but the filter has fitted so well that I am unsure about taking it off again just incase it doesn't go back the same way.

Does the filter introduce any speckling or sparkling? I have heard that it is impossible to truly add a matte finish with a film AND preserve crystal clarity.

There is definately a speckling like sparkle to the screen. I only notice it in certain lights but it is definately there. I find it less distracting than the reflection given by the underlying glossy screen.

How hard is it to remove the digitizer and/or touch panel (if they are different things)? I can't tell if the one that I'm buying has it or not. Can you give some pointers on how to remove it if I am found to have a digitizer? I have confirmed with the seller that this is a matte screen. Now will this fit the x200/x200s ccfl models? I'm close to pulling the trigger!

I asked derrick.ny to remove the digitizer for me which he did. The only thing I had to do was remove the wacom thing on the back. I came off pretty easily with a thin sharp knife. I would do it again if I needed to.

I bought one from the same seller. The digitizer (Wacom) on the back was very easy to remove. The glass writing surface on the front was a little more difficult, but doable. Basically the glass is attached to the LCD panel with some foam tape that is perhaps a few mm thick. I used a blade (an exacto knife would also work great) to slowly cut through the foam tape around the screen. To be on the safe side, try to cut closer to the glass writing surface rather than the LCD. Once the foam tape is completely cut through, the glass writing surface readily separatees from the LCD. Then the remaining tape on the LCD can be easily removed by peeling the tape back.

It took me about 20~30 mins to do the job, without any prior experience. In retrospect, considering the premium (>$100) one would pay to buy a panel without the writing surface, I think the DIY route was well worthwhile. (plus, I am a tinkerer so why pay someone to do the fun stuff? :)
