Thinkpad x300 and speedfan

Hello boys and girls,

Next to TPfancontrol I want to test Speedfan. However in order to get any information or regulation possibilities from this program, it needs some system information.

Therefor, as far as I know, you have to go to the tab INFO > click GET CONFIG > click on the website to get the Ticket code. At this website you will need to find your motherboard. So, first I need to know what motherboard I have:

This is what CPU-Z says about the motherboard (tab MAINBOARD section MOTHERBOARD):
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Model: 647814G
Chipset: INTEL GM965
Southbridge: INTEL 82801HBM (ICH8-M)

I'm not sure what to look for, but neither 'Lenovo 647814G' nor 'INTEL GM965' is listed. So I've sent an e-mail to addthisplease [at] almico . com and asked to add the motherboard, but I didn't get any reaction (yet..).

But surely there should be somebody who already succesfully used Speedfan. So I wondered if anybody can give me the correct Ticket number, or tell me how to get this program working.

Thanks in advance.

It seems the motherboard uses Intel's 965 express chipset - which has been out for awhile and should already be supported by Speedfan.

By my knowlegde, when it's supported, it should be listed here. Unfortunately it isn't. But maybe I'm missing something.

For what it's worth I believe the chipset itself is supported but the motherboard does not support software control of the fan - and if the hardware doesn't support it there isn't really anything that can be done.

I installed SpeedFan on my desktop (also has a 965 express chipset like the X300) and Speedfan was able to pick up the fans I have connected to the motherboard. This is why I think the X300 motherboard just simply doesn't support software monitoring/control of the fan.

And if you look on ThinkWiki the X20xx and X30x models are not listed with all the other Thinkpads that do support software fan control.

Thanks for the info. I understand Speedfan detected your fans by default, so without any configuration import. That indeed would be an indication the X300 motherboard simply doesn't support it.

Ok, I'll keep searching for a solution, but will be realistic when it comes to the change of succes.
