Where's my third PCI-E Slot?

#1 Post by gdi2k » Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:48 am

Greetings,

I have an X200. According to the Lenovo docs, there should be 3 Mini PCE-E slots. I'm already using two of them for Wifi and WWAN and I'm thinking about adding an SSD drive to my third slot, but I can't physically find it and don't want to buy anything before I'm sure there's space. I've removed the keyboard and wristpad to have a look, but haven't ventured further than that. Is it on the rear of the mainboard?

Also, has anyone got any recommendations for a suitable drive? I'm thinking about something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/16GB-SaberTooth-A ... B002E6YYMI

Thanks,

gdi

All PCI-E SSDs are twice the size of your typicall wireless card I believe. This means that you can't put an SSD in there at all. It won't physically fit.

Thanks for the reply!

I've since realised that the third slot is actually located just West of the harddisk on the top side of the motherboard (top down view with the LCD being North). It's smaller than the other 2 PCI-E slots. The reason I didn't spot it is because its already occupied by a 2 GB Intel Turbo memory thing, which I can't use anyway because I use Linux and Intel don't ship drivers for it.

I've read elsewhere that the slot can only be used either for turbo memory or a WIFI card (enforced by BIOS), so not very useful unfortunately.

Actually I'm using this slot for an internal microsdhc card powered by the hwtools.net module. You'll need the Zender BIOS of course. Having an extra 16gb of internal flash (non-write-intensive, of course) is handy - particularly for things like videos, music, or photos I want to have handy but don't edit frequently.
