Cracked My Lenovo X200T's Case :( Pics Inside :(

Someone literally bumped into me at a restaurant and my baby, my Lenovo X200 Tablet hit the ground. It was inside a padded slip cover case, but unfortunately it didn't help much :( The case cracked in the back to the left of battery slot and immediately over the VGA socket - The little top tier broke off (I really wanted to beat the crap out of the guy who bumped into me by the way). While the breakage is purely cosmetic, it will definitely bring down the value of my Tablet should I decide to resell it in the future (I usually sell and upgrade the minute the newer model comes out). I paid roughly $2300 for this with the Ultrabase And Blu-Ray Drive! Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to get the bottom casing replaced by Lenovo? Would it be worth the cost? I am under warranty. The machine is not damaged operationally in any way.

I love this laptop SO MUCH, more than any Lenovo/IBM I've ever owned (To date I had an X23, X31, X32, X61, and X61Tablet). I really want to remedy this ASAP. Should I pursue a repair or would it be best if I just keep it moving and forget about damage repair due to the possible high cost (I haven't contacted Lenovo yet, just posting here because maybe someone here would know something about situations like these). I'm sure Lenovo won't cover falls. My laptop is under warranty from Feb 2009 to Feb 2010.

Pics Of The Damages Are Below:

The base cover assembly depends on the model of x200 tablet that you have. See the sticker on the bottom of the tablet. What is the model?

The Model # is rubbing out, but it is the following:

7448 45N3140 R N

:( Any ideas on cost? Thanks so much for replying so quickly. I'm really bummed out about it. This model is lighter yes, but the casing seems to be a bit cheaper-feeling as well. The fall wasn't from a high distance at all, but I guess the marble flooring really did a number on my unit.

I went to the link you provided, looked up my warranty information and this is what it said:

This product has a one year limited warranty and is entitled to EZServ/Depot service. Customers may call their local service center for more information. Dealers may provide carry-in repair for this product.

Does this mean I am covered? If I am, it would be great!

I think it would cost several hundred dollars, but not exactly sure. If it were me and I could not replace it myself (I can), I would contact a member here to do it for me. Try 'Brad'. He works out of New York, is very reputable, and reasonably priced. The warranty would not cover this damage unless you had the accidental damage addendum, which you do not.

Wow. Thanks Harry! I will look for Brad, but I will also contact Lenovo to make sure. So are you telling me this would NOT be covered by my year-long limited warranty?

Thanks!!

To add to what Harry said, unless you purchased the accident protection coverage within 30 days of buying the notebook, no, it isn't covered. I gather you didn't buy it?

I usually recommend getting it unless you're getting some super-duper deal on a ThinkPad that is so cheap that you can afford to take the loss. No matter how careful you are, accidents will happen. I know some have recommended just adding it to your homeowner's policy. When I think about my deductible and the possible long-term effect on my premiums, it's my opinion that Lenovo's accident protection is cheaper. YMMV

I really wish I did buy that accident coverage! You're right, they do happen! I'm now 6 months in with this laptop, I love it so much. Since the Base Assembly is only $83, its a generous price for an important part. Where did you find the price? My Bezel could also use replacing because it came from the factory with a cosmetic blemish which I reported, but never sent it in.

I hope the next Tablet from Lenovo is even better than this one. I hated my X61T, but this one is the absolute best. It never leaves my side, except for that fall :(

Remember that for an unexperienced user, that would take around 2 hours of work to get it done. Therefore I'd also take a look into finding someone who would do that for me.

I did rebuild me a new Thinkpad and it took some hours to do that. While it was fun for me, for others - they would not like to do that kind of work that much :)

To get it done:
1. Find the hardware replacement manual pdf from lenovo for your model
2. Order the missing hardware
3. Replace the defect hardware with the new hardware according to the hardware manual pdf from lenovo

Its important to have good screwdrivers and lots of nerves :D

I know that I was the one who dropped it as a result of someone bumping into me, but upon second inspection, this Base Assembly is coming apart and by the looks of unrelated areas not effected by the drop (opposite side) and the feel of some parts before, this assembly has BEEN coming apart and its peeling off (try to visualize) like cake crumbs, bit by bit falling apart.

If you remember from my original post, I mentioned that while I love my tablet, it FEELS cheap, light, but CHEAP, particularly the bottom assembly. The bracket by the SD slot which houses the lid latch is breaking off, as well as the siding above the hard drive enclosure (not the base assembly). Its as if the entire casing is coming apart. I know I'm not the only one with this issue because I'm reading other forums with posters complaining about the keyboard base coming apart w/keys falling off and also other base assembly issues. I'm going to call Lenovo on Monday.
