TV Card into X301. Possible?

#1 Post by PhaseShiftDown » Thu Sep 17, 2009 7:02 am

Is it possible to install a mini pci-e DVB-T digital tv tuner card into the x301? I want to install on into the mini PCI-E slot under the keyboard, but I've read that the bios has a whitelist of authorized cards? Is it possible to bypass this restriction if it is there?

(as cited above) it is possible. Much easier to just use a USB one though.

hmmmm.. thats interesting, but thats on a x200 and there was no mention of bios mod?
For the x301, the mini PCI-E slot under the keyboard, is that only for authorized WWAN card?
Also, does anyone know if those mini PCI-E SSD drives for e-PC will simply work as a storage drive if I drop one in?

As far as I know there is only a whitelist for certain devices (like WiFi).

So I don't think you will have any problems whatsoever with a TV tuner or a PCI-E SSD.

Not true, unfortunately. I needed a BIOS mod to install a miniPCIE SD card reader, for instance.

it shouldn't need one as almost all tv tuners are usb connenction only even though in a mpcie formfactor.. hard to say though...

depending on if I can sell my x60 tablet or not, I might try the card in there and see what success I get as I no longer have the x200

I know this is old but did this work in an X301?
Also does just taping pin 20 get around the BIOS Whitelist problem?
Cheers
