Broke a few keyboard buttons...replacement parts?

#1 Post by bwinter » Tue Sep 22, 2009 9:46 pm

So I broke the TAB and F key white plastic scissor hinges (underneath the actual key) while cleaning the keyboard and lost the one for the left Windows key and need replacements. They look like little plastic things maybe 2 cents each. I really don't want to have to buy a new $66 keyboard replacement. The x300 is under warranty. Is there a way to get these pieces without having to pay for a whole darn new keyboard?

Wow...what did you use to clean the keyboard, a hammer ? :). This might be tough unless someone has a replacement x300 keyboard that is defective to sell. I do not know which other machines (if any) use the same keyboard. You are going to have to do some research, I'd start with pictures of the scissor assembly required, and post them here. Also post the part number of the keyboard itself. If this was an older machine it becomes much easier to get parts.

Call Lenovo and tell them that it just broke/fell off. As long as you don't insist that you were messing around with it, chances are they will send you a new keyboard. I haven't quite done that before, but I have gone to their service center twice in the past with broken keys, and they would just replace the one key at no charge.
