X200s WXGA+ screen and other Qs ?

Hi all,

I'm considering switching from a 14.1" 1400x1050 T60 to a new X200s with a 12.1" 1440x900 screen.

Has anyone else made this kind of switch? how is the LED-backlit screen? will the new screen feel very small ?

The X200s offer is with a P9400 CPU. Is there a list of benchmarks for different CPUs somewhere? My T60 has a T5600 CPU, can I expect the X200s to be significantly faster?

Also, the X200s is being offered with a 128 Gb SSD, does anyone have some battery-life numbers with the SSD compared to say a 320Gb normal SATA drive ?

How about Ubuntu, does it work well with the X200/200s ?

The pixels per inch of a 14" SXGA+ LCD is 125 while a 12" WXGA is 140. Text will definitely be smaller on the X200s. Whether that's too small for you is hard for me to say.

You hear all kinds of things about the screen. Some say it's fine while others say it's not so great. I've not seen one myself. It certainly is brighter than your T60, but I don't know that the contrast or viewing angles are any better. Those are what makes for a good screen. If you liked your T60 screen, I'd say it's probably not any worse. If you want a good screen you could buy the X200 and swap the screen for the BOE-Hydis AFFS screen. That would give you a very good screen.

The X200s has the SL9400. It will offer better performance than your T5600, but only for CPU intensive stuff. For general usage it'll be about the same. There the SSD will make more of a difference performance wise. There's some benchmarks of the X200s and X200 in the X200s review over on NBR if you care to look.

I don't foresee any Linux issues for you, but if you stick to the Intel parts, you'll usually do pretty good in Linux. Good Luck.
