X300 and Windows 7 - Anyone has done the update?

Anyone installed the released version of Windows 7 on a X300 (original with Vista)?

I installed windows 7 enterprise on my X301. it takes about 40 minutes for installation. Then another hour or so to load all my vista programs in. All works fine.

Windows 7 enterprise is on free trail for 3 months now at Microsoft website, you need to download it and burn to a DVD drive. Then use vista to partition at least 16GB for the win7, so I created about 30GB. Then just install win7 into this partition and you can dual boot win7/vista.

win7 boots up FASTER, shut down faster and most of the programs, drivers work...so quite happy with it. X300 should see a speed boost

Yep, installed Windows 7 Ultimate last weekend. Works great - boots in 30 seconds (1 minute by the time I put all the software and anti-virus on it, and access connections get a connection). Fast and very happy. XP Mode allows me to use software that I had to drop with Vista.

System Update only picks up a handful of drivers at the moment. But if you search for "Lenovo Windows 7 beta drivers" then you get a list of drivers that are currently not being pulled through System Update.

I can't find Productivity Centre for Windows 7 (Vista version don't work), and there's no overlay when using the brightness control. I guess I have to wait for Lenovo to release the drivers/software for Windows 7.

Makes me wonder how Lenovo are shipping new Thinkpads if there's no Productivity Centre and brightness control overlay. Anyone know?

I have installed Win7 Professional on my X200

I had the same experiences that phil81uk did... including the screen brightness overlay missing.

We'll have to wait for software updates from Lenovo.

The updates are already there -- the fn overlay works for me at least.

Productivity Center isn't coming to Windows 7. It's odd that the Vista/XP version didn't work for you - works for me.

Windows 7 works fine on my X300. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit as an upgrade to the factory installed Vista. To complete the installation you need to use the Lenovo ThinkVantage Update 4 program. Battery life, speed, stability are just fine. The really nice networking features will blow you away when connected on a network with other Windows 7 computers.

If you are interested in upgrading or doing a clean install...the X300 will not disappoint you. ThinkVantage Update has all the necessary drivers that are not included on the Windows 7 DVD.

Have fun...Bill

i have installed 7 on Vista 32 X300. took me a day or so to get the drivers working.
1. microphone wasn't working
2. osd wasn't working (for brightness)
3. the thinkpad button light stopped working

i fixed 1 and 2 but the thinkpad button light requires productivity center. I wonder when is lenovo going to release driver to fix the light (or maybe they will just ignore this problem). I am glad thou that lenovo is finally shipping thinkpads with less crapware.

If I try to do a clean install of Windows 7, where do I get the ThinkVantage software?

The Lenovo website, on the downloads & drivers page for your laptop.

I've installed Win7 ultimate 64 bit 2 weeks ago, downloaded all the x301 drivers from lenovo's web site and everything but the Thinkvantage button works....

If you download their new "ThinkVantage Toolbox" you will get the ThinkVantage button working again.

Has anyone gotten their WWAN card to work after the upgrade? I have an X300 with the Verizon EVDO card and I want to upgrade to Win7 but I'm afraid of loosing my Verizon connection capabilities.

Thanks for any help or info!
