hey guys,
i asked this somewhere else but I didn't really get an informative response heh so I was wondering if anybody has done this and could help me out for a second. I have an x200 and it's great. My family member who set the password is on a trip and isn't going to come home for the next 8 months.
The BIOS has a power on password (I have it)
Hard drive password (I have it)
Supervisor mode (nobody remembers it, not even the one who left). But under it, "BIOS lock" is completely disabled so certain things can be changed. Just not boot sequence, time and date... But the boot sequence is USB FDD, USB CD, then the hard drive.
-Can I install windows 7 without being prompted a supervisor mode password? It never asks me for one since I power with user mode and hard drive.
-if I change the hard drive and use a new one later on, would it still ask me for supervisor password or just automatically place the new hard drive in the same location, behind USB FDD and CD in boot sequence? I just want to know if anyone has swapped hard drives with a user mode/HDD password only. Does it prompt anything?
-Does a BIOS update from thinkvantage inside windows require you to enter the supervisor mode password after reboot?
thanks for any help you can provide. It costs so much to replace the motherboard. If our family can just continue using it like this, I would have no problems at all. But I need to know if I can do it (for when I do have to reinstall the OS). The warranty is sadly gone, one year. Thanks again everyone I mean it.
x200, no bios password but settings all unlocked. windows 7?
