Need help with Sierra MC8775 in a X200 Tablet Multitouch

#1 Post by joseph_lin » Thu Nov 12, 2009 3:04 pm

I purchased this MC8775 card from ebay and found that it does not work in X200 Multitouch! I googled a lot try to find out what is wrong with the 1408 error, and found this forum. Please if anyone is able to help me with this issue, the seller from EBay has no idea of what is going on and they insist it is driver issue! I cannot even pass the BIOS how can it be the driver issue? If anyone with working hacked BIOS please give me a PM. I really appreciate your help.

Now I got the bios, but how do I "replace" .FL1 file? All bios files are in the ISO, and when I mounted the ISO in Daemon-Tools, it shows no files at all!

Please help!

Should be a .Rom file. You can write this file with WinPhlash.exe in Lenovo‘s bios upgrade utility.

Forget the .iso file. If you are running Windows, then go to the page below, and download the 32-bit BIOS .exe file version which matches the version number of the modified BIOS you have:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 51#version

Execute the .exe file to unpack it. It will create a folder C:\Drivers\Flash\(the BIOS file name). At the end of the file unpacking, uncheck the box that asks if you want to install the BIOS, and exit the program.

Go to the path above and replace the .fl1 file in the last sub-folder nested in that path with the modified BIOS .FL1 file.

Move up the tree one folder in that path, and double-click on WINUPTP.EXE to start the BIOS update.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone! Thank you for all of your help!

Below is my contribution for people who wants to install MC8775 to their systems, especially if you are using a X200 Multitouch.

1. Download BIOS Update Utility from Lenovo
2. Execute the file
3. When asked where to extract, extract to a folder like C:\BIOS
4. Copy xxxxxxxxxx.wph obtained from Zender to C:\BIOS
5. Use WinPhlash64.exe(if your system is a 64 bit OS), pick xxxxxxxxxxxxx.wph as the new BIOS and update
6. Restart
7. Install Sierra Watch Catcher
8. Install Ultraedit
9. Open in ultraedit AcAdaptersInfo.dll search for 56 00 49 00 44 00 5f 00 31 00 31 00 39 00 39 00 26 00 50 00 49 00 44 00 5f 00 36 00 38 00 31 00 33 00
10. Now change 2 places of the binary pattern to 1199 to 03f0 and then change 6813 to 1e1d, notice do not rouine the 00 between letters.
11. Open in ultraedit ACon.dll, do the same as step 9 and 10, then restart the system
12. Go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67955 to download Lenovo MC8775 driver
13. Install the driver, restart.
14. Restart then everything works, including fn+f5!

Just did a speed test, 2.1Mbps download!!!! That is wonderful!

Compared to my USB 870's 870kbps, that is about 2.5x faster! Used iPhone sim with unlimited access, I can't feel any better than it is now!

Once again, thank all who helped especially Zender!

It does not really take too much time. For my current X200, it took me 6 hours to figure out how to flash, where are the drivers and the correct answer from forums all over the world. Now I have confident to hack a X200 in under 1 hour. Today, I changed AccessConnections' configuration file and now I am ready to drop Sierra Wireless Watcher. It is so much easier to use AccessConnections then Sierra wireless watcher.

If you need my help hacking to install a MC8775, send me a PM.
