X200 tablet fingerprint only allows one direction in Win 7

#1 Post by GoofyG28 » Tue Nov 17, 2009 1:12 pm

Hi all,

I recently purchased an X200 tablet on eBay. I got the free Windows 7 upgrade from Lenovo, and everything runs smoothly (except for the 'menu' button next to the screen, where nothing happens anymore when I press it).

The fingerprint reader works fine, and it even kept my prints from Vista. However, with Windows 7, I can only slide my fingers in one direction (from right to left, if using the X200 in the normal laptop orientation). If you are a tablet user, you would know that there is a left and right 'dent' surrounding the reader, which allows you to slide your fingers in either direction.

I tried re-installing the fingerprint reader software -- as well as resetting my stored finger prints -- but it still only lets me slide in one direction. If I slide my fingers from left to right, I'll get a 'no match' error.

Any help?

I finally figured it out! I went into my Device Manager >> Biometric Devices >> right clicked on Authen Tech >> Properties. The driver looked outdated, so I tried "Update Driver" for fun. Windows 7 actually found an updated version online, and now it's updated to v.8.1.2.56, dated 7/7/2009. Now, I can swipe my fingers left-to-right or right-to-left!
