Best SSD-Drive under 200 Euros?

#1 Post by Random_H » Mon Dec 21, 2009 6:50 am

Hi there,

I'm new to this fine board so bear with me. Also, I am not a native speaker. Any inaccuracys in my post would be related to that.

Anyhow... I read in the faqs that you can basically use most 2,5" SSDs in the X200s. I only got my X200s a week or two ago. What really gets on my nerves is the loudness of the 7.200rpm Harddrive that sits in there. Thus, I'm not looking for much storage, as I got my home pc for that. I just want something that's not as loud as this beast. It's basically the only thing I hear. All the time. It's a real delight whenever windows parks the HDD.

I don't care if the drive you recommend is slightly slower than the 7.200 one that I have. It just shouldn't be slower than a 5.400rpm-Device

When I was looking online for SSDs the sheer number an specs kinda overwhelmed me, so I registered here looking for help. So, what would be a sound choice for someone like me?

Also, it would be helpful to know if you can do a full new install with the Upgrade-Versions of Windows 7 that Lenovo sends out for new buyers of Vista systems?

I'd appreciate any help.

cheers,

Alex

I recommend 5.400 rpm harddrives from Samsung.
They're silent, rather fast und inexpensive.

Hi Moronoxyd,

Thanks for the reply. My X30 had a 5.400rpm one. You're right they're way more silent, but this time i really want to go super-silent in addition to being able to get more battery time out of the machine. I already planned for additional expenses between 100 and 200 bucks, so any hints reagarding something SSD in those price regions would be very much appreciated.

Plus I change my thinkpads on a three to four year basis and would really like to have cutting edge tech in there this time.

cheers,

Alex

There isn't one at that price.

While you won't be able to find one with ample storage space at that price, you should be able to pick up a 30GB OCZ Vertex or an OCZ Agility for <= 200 Euros. They won't be as fast as Intel's drives (nowhere close), but they'll certainly beat any spinning platter drive.

Thanks andykrey,

that was exactly what I had in mind.

Does anybody know if you can make a full new install of Windows 7 on this HDD with those upgrade versions for Vista Lenovo is sending out at the moment?

cheers,

Alex
