X301 Standby/hibernate problems...

Ok, so I have only been recently having this problem. When i tell the computer to go into standby or hibernate, it will go through the motions (screen will turn off), but never actually enter suspend/hibernate mode. Also, the hdd will spin (120gb mechanical drive) for the first few seconds, and then turn off, while the machine remains off.

Also, it will turn on randomly if I leave it in standby mode sometimes, and after a while of using it without shutting it down the screen brightness controls will not respond even through the lenovo power application. This all happens very occasionally (1/20 times i use it), but it is still an annoyance to have happen. Also, if it matters, I bought it through the Microsoft store so it is a MS signature PC (no bloatware). Do I have to do a restore? I made restore dvd's but I am not sure if it will restore it to the lenovo default, or the microsoft slimmed down version.

Any ideas?

Side note: I just ordered an extra 2gb stick of ram and bought 3 years of adp + depot service, and im looking at 1.8" ssd options (but they will most likely be too expensive for me).

I re-formatted and the problem still occurs :(

I am going to re-install and discontinue use of rightmark underclocking and see if that is the problem.

Are you running the latest BIOS revision (3.09)?

Yes, I upgraded when I reinstalled windows. It is still sporadically happening, and now every now and then it will refuse to shutdown (freeze at the shutdown screen).

Another question, but is there any way to get faster fingerprint login access? I have a mechanical drive and it takes 5-10 secs for the hdd to spin before I can actually swipe my finger (keeps saying "please wait").

Also, one random question but is there any way to get the ThinkVantage button light to stay lit? As far as I can tell it only is lit when you turn the computer on :?:

The laptop is also now freezing during normal shutdown. It will go to the win7 shutdown screen, say it is shutting down, the screen will turn off like normal, but then it will hang and not actually power down. 20mins later it will automatically re-start (if I leave it), and tell me there was a serious error.

TTT

Shutdown problem went away.

Standby and hibernate problem PERSISTS!!!!
The stock lenovo restore image is screwed I think, I am at my wit's end!
The laptop will go into standby 1-3 times, but after that it will not do anything after the screen dims. All the other functions work (mute button lights up, thinklight works, etc), and when i tap keys the system beeps (a windows beep it sounds like, not a traditional system speaker obnoxious beep).

How can I fix the restore image? EVERYTHING else works fine (no freezing ever when I have the laptop on).
Or how can I get a proper installation of Windows 7 onto this thing?

EDIT:
Sigh, my experiance with "new age" operating systems (vista and 7) has not really panned out. I LOVE windows 7 but this stability issue is not working for me. I need to be able to put it in suspend. I dont want to go back to XP but it was such a stable o/s :(
