WiFi and Sleep mode issues

Recently purchased an X200s for myself, and have noticed a few odd issues.
Some background, I own an x41 that I adore, used hard, and seldom had any issues with. Upgraded because it just wasn't fast enough. With the x41 I would often simply close the laptop to trigger sleep mode, as well as never lose wifi connection for days on end.

X200s configuration:
INTELCORE2DUO PR.SL9400(1.86 GHZ)
GENUWIN7PROFES.64
12.1WXGA2X3ULTCONN.IIANT.
3GBPC3-8500 1067MHZ2DIMM
TRACKPOINT+FINGERPRINTREAD
250GB HDD,7200RPM D ENC
5-1MEDIACARDREADER+MODEM
INTEGR.BLUETOOTH PAN
THINKPAD B/G/N
THINKPADX200SER.9CELLENH.

X200s Problems
-Sometimes I will drop wifi connection, and when searching for networks in Access Connections 5, it will not see any networks. I have toyed with settings, played with things here/there, still the only way to reconnect is to restart, and blinding connect from the drop down list, or the machine will auto-connect.
-When I close the laptop, more often than not the machine will not turn off/sleep. A few times now I have reached in my bag to find it VERY hot, which causes me concern as I am not sold on the build quality of this machine, and it's resistance to heat as of yet.

I also find the white light keyboard light to be annoying, I prefer the amber light.. and am considering swapping that out. Has anyone done this or heard of it being done?

New to posting here, didn't see any of these issues in other posts (but I admit I only read first page or 2 of posts).
