Lenovo official Thinkpad Sleeve

Does anyone use this sleeve case for their X200?

I've read about them here

but haven't seen any review about them. The stock photos from the above link do not really tell one how good these sleeves are.

How's the build quality of these sleeves and how's the protection that they offer? As compared to, say zeroshock sleeves? What kind of materials do these case use? Any comment on softness/stiffness?

Given the price I'd say you haven't much to loose to try one. Personally I use Zeroshock III sleeves.

That's a knock-off of the old official IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad sleeve that was available only from Japan. The official Japanese one looks much better, and was constructed very dense and stiff material similar to those used on ZeroShock cases. These are not that expensive, I once purchased one on eBay for about $25 (I guess, don't remember the exact amount). The only problem is that, it was designed for 4:3 Thinkpads, and I prefer zipper.

I have been using Zeroshock on my X61 for the last two years and I like the protection that it offers. But after seeing it everyday for two years, I am bored by how it looks and want something that looks different.

I use the official Lenovo sleeve for my X200 and while I cannot compare it to a zeroshock sleeve since Ive never seen one in person, I am really happy with it. The X200 easily slides inside and while I only have the 6 cell battery, there is plenty of space for those with the 9 cell battery to fit.

It is a light sleeve and I don't think there is enough padding to protect the laptop from accidental drops. I use it mainly to protect my laptop from scratches while I carry it in my school bag.

For the price it is a steal but if you need more protection, I think the Zeroshock sleeves would be better.

I highly recommend the Zeroshock sleeve. It's made from a dense type of memory foam. Why skimp out on protection for a $1000 product?

I have been using (black) ZeroShock on my X61 for the last 2 years, and I know they are good stuff. It's just that they look so boring after looking at them everyday for the last two years... white and orange are not particular good looking either.

Anyway, I have purchased (and received) both the Lenovo sleeve and (yet another) the black ZeroShock for my X200. The Lenovo one looks better, but the Zeroshcok offers better protection. I guess I will keep using the Zeroshock until I can find a nicer looking sleeve that offer as good protection as the Zeroshock.

While I do like a good sleeve, I don't agree with sleeving a thinkpad. It's made to be rugged, that paint is rubberized for a reason. The machine is built to stand up to military tests. The design was scrutinized to shave every mm off and now you go slap a 10 dollar sleeve on it?? I highly question these motives.

So what? I know they are built like a tank, and that's one of the reasons I buy Thinkpads. But that doesn't mean that I would like to see it getting dented and scratched, especially when you care about the resale value of your Thinkpads.

Think again... if you felt rubberized paint refers to rugged...

In fact, the rubberized paint has started to fall-off corners of many less than 1/2 yr thinkpads... and this rubberized paint is really thin...

I felt, that paint is there for better grip purpose...in fact, i rather it has standard thinkpad finish, which is proven to be lasting and tough.

Rugged... i felt is refer to enclosure strength and shock reduction...
Enclosure strength comes from design and whole material...
Shock reduction... comes from the design and cushion stuff around the HDD.

To each his own. I buy a thinkpad til it falls apart, i don't buy a thinkpad to resell. I resell my Dell/HP laptops cus they fall apart after 2-3 years.

You miss the point here. A laptop that fell apart can only be resold for $0. That's not reselling, that's called throwing away. A Thinkpad has resale value exactly because it doesn't fell apart easily.

I know Thinkpads are supposed to be ultra tough, but I have put mine in my backpack sleeve for 3 months now, and the corners are rubbed off already

That's why I bought a Zeroshock 3 sleeve.
