Any news on x310/x302?

We've seen the news on x210 at CES, with the new cpus and stuff.

So I wonder if there's any similar upgrades for the x300 series?

Thanks,

The old topic for this is http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=71590 The Core i7 640UM (see http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15448/35/ ) would appear to be the processor to replace the SU9600 should Lenovo be inclined to produce an X310 or X302. You'll have to wait for the X series announcement hinted at by Matt Kohut "For you X series ultraportable fans, not to worry, we’ll have something for you before too long." (see http://lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=349 ). Maybe chip shortages have delayed things a bit. Whether an X series update includes the X3xx series given that none were shown on leaked roadmaps, who knows. All in all a slightly long-winded way of saying "I don't know" :-)

I have the original X300 and I need a replacement but there seems to be a long back-order or it's out of stock. Could this mean the new one is coming?

I hope there's an upgrade as well (I don't care much for the screen but I can't stand the CPU), however, all the roadmaps that has leaked out doesn't show new X3xx for this year and on. Many people in the Chinese forums are already suspecting Lenovo might stop making the series....

A story in Techradar discusses among other things LDC format for future thinkpads. It says that they are still thinking about whether to go to 16:9 for X300 ultraportable.

http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-co ... ub--665258

The story indicates that Lenovo would like to do another X300-type machine. They need a strong flagship machine for PR and excitement, not to mention technological innovations to keep the entire line fresh.

Personally I am hoping that X310 will use 16:10 or even back to 4:3 IPS (as Apple has used for their iPad) and perhaps get the weight down to 2 or 2.5 lbs. Otherwise Lenovo shouldn't be overcharging for X3xx machines.

One thing I would bet on is that we are not going to see any IPS screens in the near future. Lenovo is having a hard time just like the other laptop makers in selling their product and while the ips screen would be a must buy for me, the average consumer is not going to pay the extra and a run of thinkpads with IPS screens would be expensive!

They should at least make it an option though. Even my friends that know nothing about computers can see how sub-par the screen is on my X301.

With x201 released today, I've been more eager than ever to see any news on x302...ah it's killing me

Sorry to break it to you guys, but there are no plans to offer a new version of the X300 series.

Hey, Darthkim, where did you get this information?

An update to X300 series may or may not appear. I would only believe it when it is announced.

As an enterprise customer, we get to see the roadmaps for the next 12 to 18 months.

My rep stated that the X301 would not be upgraded to the calpella chips. And I didn't see any units on the roadmap

There has been talks about creating another "halo" product, however who knows when that may be.

Though not a fit for everyone, i think the T410s are a close enough replacement for X301's. Plus it has a docking station, T series accessories, etc.

Hope this helps. I loved the look of the X301, but couldn't see wide adoption in my company for these units. (and I'm guessing lenovo found the same thing)

alright, I pulled the trigger, won a used x301 on ebay for just $1075, su9400, 2g mem, blutooth and stuff, and the best part about it is it comes with a 128gb ssd.

Then if x310/302 ever comes out, I'll sell this one for more expensive and get the new one. :D

If not the i7-640UM, maybe the i7-660UM or the i7-680UM : http://www.thinkpads.com/2010/04/29/int ... placement/

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this. Topics on the subject seem to be multiplying though :-)

God knows how reliable, but for what it's worth, http://www.51nb.com/viewnews-58403.html or Google translated http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... h-CN&tl=en

It will be awfully disappointing if X310 were to use 16:9 displays... Probably will end up trading my thinkpads for Macbook Pros. At least they still use 16:10 displays that are better than those found in thinkpads and even offer eye-busting higher resolution displays.

AND according to the translation it looks like they will be changing the keyboard-- which is an absolutely horrible idea. One logically think Lenovo will be chasing apple again with chick-let style keys. This is just horrific news. Lenovo seems to be saying that cheaper quality and 'style' is their future! J

I suppose it's inevitable that thinkpads as we are used to will eventually disappear. If Lenovo wants to follow Apple, then might as well get a real Apple...

One rumor based on a Chinese forum post translated through google doesn't necessarily mean that we're getting an accurate representation of what will happen. Treat it as something fun to discuss rather than hard and fast news.

Personally, I can't believe the maximum vertical resolution of (all the) screens offered on an X300 successor would be 768 pixels.

Thinkpad information posted on that Chinese web site has been quite reliable. And I can read a little bit of the original Chinese site and can confirm that the Google translation is correct. I agree that reducing the resolution to 1366x768 would be disappointing, although it's possible there will be a 1600x900 option (like the Sony Z series), which would be even better than the current 1440x900. The pixel density of a 13.1" 1600x900 is not insanely high, and is actually a little lower than for the 12.1" 1400x1050 screen of the X6* tablets (140.1 DPI versus 144.6 DPI). Also, keep in mind that the author of that post only said that the keyboard design will change, but he doesn't know exactly how it will change. It could become a chiclet keyboard, but it could also be just a slight change in the layout.
