Just received the X200 I recently ordered directly form Lenovo today.

To my surprise (and I like it) that there is no "Lenovo" written on the LCD lid, like the one on the bottom left of this photo

The rest of the lid is the same, with the Thinkpad logo on the bottom right.

I wonder if they produce all the X200 this way now.

I noticed little subtle things like this changing.

Lenovo made a lot of changes some years back:

Changing the "IBM ThinkPad" to "Lenovo ThinkPad" logo.
Changing the "red/blue' color scheme
and a few other things

Trying to associate the "Lenovo" brand with the "ThinkPad" name, I think has worked against them! I think they are NOW trying to separate the "two brands".

Think of "Sony" and "Bose", they are both made by the same company!!! However "Bose" is limited to the "high end" audio/video stuff and there is no mention of the "Sony" name!

Other companies have done this...another that comes to mind..."Technics" -"old school" audio equipment- was/is manufactured by "Panasonic"

IMHO:
I think Lenovo is moving in the right direction on this. Separating the "brand" will be a good marketing strategy! In a way I think they underestimated the TRUE core value of the ThinkPad brand or better yet, they underestimated the "ThinkPad user".

In essence:
ThinkPad alone (without IBM) provides more value than any other (current) marketing strategy...and adding "Lenovo" only dilutes the brand.

My $1.98...YMMV

I believe "Thinkpad" is evolving into its own brand under the Lenovo umbrella.

I know its off topic but I had to mention the fact that that's just not true. Bose is a private company found and managed by Amar Bose.
