Does anyone know yet whether an X200 can be retrofitted with an X201 palmrest with touchpad?

If you could provide pictures of the palmrest and the motherboard where the palmrest wire connects (if you have the fingerprint scanner) I could probably tell you. Today I confirmed that you can swap the touchpad palmrest from the X201 to the X201s and it works flawlessly.

I'm more curious about whether I can use the X201 palmrest with new fingerprint reader on my X200. I like the LED indicators on the new fingerprint reader as well as the swipe-your-finger-to-power-on function.

I didn't know about the swipe-your-finger-to-power-on function on the X200 (I still have an X60s, the fingerprint of which lacks that function, AFAIK). What's the benefit of swiping your finger over using it to press the I/O button? What are the LED indicators used for (there are none on my X60s)?

The swipe-your-finger-to-power-on function is not on X200. It was first introduced on T400s, and now on all the new Thinkpads including X201.
I do this every morning when I get back to the office: plug-in laptop, go-other-place/do-other-things while booting (booting doesn't take that long anymore these days, especially with my SSD equipped X200), come back and start using laptop.
I have power on password for security reason, and the password can be entered by using the fingerprint reader. But right now I have to wait for a few seconds after pressing the power button for the Thinkpad logo to show up, and then a couple more seconds before the fingerprint reader can be used. With swipe-your-finger-to-power-on, this wait time could be saved. This wait time may seem short, but if you do this every morning, you get tired of it and after pressing the power on button you will start saying "come on come on come on come on..."
I was really disappointed when I moved from X61 to X200 and found that the fingerprint load time hasn't improve at all. This is especially true when awake from sleep. If I set to not locking windows when awake from sleep, I can basically use my laptop immediately when I press the power button to resume from sleep. With password on, I have to wait 4-5 seconds for the fingerprint reader to load after waking up the laptop, which I have been hoping that Lenovo could have improve. (I guess the new fingerprint reader also support swipe-to-wake-laptop-and-log-in?)

Thanks for the detailed explanation, the function now makes sense to me! Looking forward to my forthcoming X201s (or i, I'm not sure).

I would also like to know.
Someone out there has to have both and can do a quick test.

There's no touchpad connector on the X200 motherboard. I'd say not without some serious skillz.
