Quesion about Lenovo Onsite Warranty?

#1 Post by chuenmasiello » Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:24 am

Hi Everyone,

I want to get the on-site warranty when I purchase an X201. On the X201s customize page, it lists:

Warranty services 1 Year Help me decide Help me decide
1YR Onsite [add $39]

Warranty services 2 Years Help me decide Help me decide
2YR Onsite [add $139]

-----

Does anyone know why the 2YR onsite is not $78? If I purchase X201 with 1YR Onsite now, can I purchase another 1YR Onsite after 1YR I own the laptop?

Because that'd be only $9 more than the 2YR depot.

Edit: 3 YR depot is Lenovo recommended even though 4 YR depot costs less?

If I spent $39 for 1YR Onsite when I first purchased X201, and then a year later (right before the 1YR Onsite expired), I went back to Lenovo to purchase another 1YR Onsite with $39 again. Wouldn't it be better than purchasing 2YR Onsite as $139 right now? (Unless Lenovo will not allow customer comes back to purchase Onsite warranty this way.)

You would have no 1YR depot warranty left to upgrade to onsite, so you wouldn't be getting it for $39.

Warranty upgrades counts from the original warranty start date. If your original 1-year warranty is expired on March 1st 2011 (say), and you go to Lenovo on February 27th 2011 to upgrade it to 1Yr onsite, it will effectively upgrade the warranty to onsite, but only for the remaining two days (till March 1st 2011). You won't get a whole new year.

So if I want to have 2 year warranty. I should just get 2 years when I purchase the laptop, right?

I also notice that 4YR depot is cheaper than 3YR depot. Can anyone tell me why?

The machine comes with 1 year depot warranty. When you buy the 1 year onsite, you are upgrading your 1 year depot to 1 year onsite. When you buy the 2 years onsite, you are actually buying a) 1st year onsite upgrade, b) 2nd year depot warranty, c) 2nd year onsite warranty upgrade.

All of Lenovo warranty is from original date of purchase, regardless of when you get it, as long as it is purchased within the original base warranty.
