Advice on X201t configuration?

#1 Post by barrywohl » Tue Mar 02, 2010 9:06 am

I am about to order between one and ten X201t tablets with Win7Pro x64, SSD drive, 2 to 4 gb ram, no WWAN and I've run into some quandries based on options currently on the Lenovo Direct Sales U.S. page.

At this time, the page only offers the 4 cell battery. I need longer battery life more than light weight.
At this time, I don't see the Ultranav pad option. I will ONLY buy a tablet with a nav pad. The Trackpoint doesn't suit me.
I was planning on the MultiTouch screen, but now I see a "Superbright" screen. I wonder if anyone can offer guidance.
There are two different Intel wireless adapters. Is the $20 more expensive adapter worth the $20 extra? 2X2 vs. 3x3? I am lost.

The main use for these tablets will be for doctors and nurses to use entering medical records. We're switching to a new EHR at my office which is more touch and click friendly than our current EHR, but I know some folks will prefer "laptop" mode and some will prefer "tablet" mode, and I can't tell ahead of implementation which is really best.

We are currently using 15" screen R50 and R51 laptops connected to an application server with Remote Desktop Connection, but the new application might run better locally than on the application server, so that's why I think the SSD drive will be better.

Any advice welcome.

I recently ordered myX201T. I'm in Australia so our options are slightly different.

I was able to order the 8 cell. You may want to call Lenovo directly as this is definately available.
If you want the multitouch then order the multitouch screen option. The superbright and standard screen offer pen input only.
I believe the Intel 5300 offers the best option in terms of range as it has 3 antennas.
I'm not sure what the Ultranav pad is but the X201T comes with both the touchpad and trackpoint device.

Have a look here: http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=30717

Hope this helps.

Geoff.

Dear Geoff,

The 8 cell is now an option on the Lenovo U.S. direct sales site.

The "Ultranav Pad" is the official "ThinkPad" name for the touchpad. It is not clear to me that the X201 Tablet comes by default WITH the touchpad.

I should call a sales rep, I suspect.
