Bad news guys, I got a bad one! After 3 mintues from boot the screen goes blank and the only way to get it back is to pull the battery for 15 seconds.... Seems like something on the motherboard has gone heat sensitive (or just broke)... :( :( :(

Going to call Lenovo Sales in the AM and get it replaced... I'm sure they will take care of it. If not, I'll certainly be on here talking about it..

Hope you guys get a good one!

Wow

You reported earlier that everything was ok. That really sucks. I hope it's not a bad batch of machines as mine was manufactured around the same time as yours.......

Back to the Queue I go...

I'm sure I just got lucky with this one. They were nice on the phone and I rebooked the order and they are sending me a UPS call tag to return the bad one.

Oh well, guess it's not going to Costa Rica with me on Monday.

Good luck folks!

yikes! Hopefully it doesn't take a few weeks to get a replacement.

I got my tracking number this AM. It shipped on the 12th in China (yesterday) and 2-day shipping gets it here on the 18th. That's 6 business days. Glad I paid extra for that shipping and ordered very early on launch day

Update, I'm returning mine too. Turns out the "stereo speakers" installed on mine aren't quite stereo. The right speaker is dead. Boo.... quality control fail.

Hehe. I wasn't sure at first whether or not mine was supposed to have 1 speaker or not. I stared at the bottom of the computer for a while and concluded that the other circular object on the other side should indeed be a speaker. i was really doubting this, thinking how in the hell could they have shipped a unit with ONE dead speaker. i must be retarded. but then i double checked with the hardware manual and there should be some glorious stereo sound coming from the bottom of this thing :P

Returned, purchased an $800 macbook while waiting for a macbook pro refresh. then i'm chucking this the macbook on ebay.

Did anyone else notice that when you buy the fasted shipping option Lenovo offers, 2 business days, they ship it UPS using the slowest (of 8) shipping methods offered? It's also the only shipping method that doesn't have a guaranteed delivery date.

How would they have shipped it if I cheaped out on shipping? Via a boat??

The best part is that it has been in the United States for two full business days

Impatient? me? no way

Hey Gang,

My x201 is due to arrive today, finally. I'll give everyone my first impressions after I've loaded my apps and installed the additional RAM I purchased last week.

I finally have a scheduled ship date :) It's tomorrow.

So "2-day shipping" is actually 6 business days. 4 business days after entering the U.S.

So I got my x201 today. I must say that this machine is very impressive. It's even more impressive since I have 6GB of RAM installed. My MS Office Apps open very quickly and my VM's have no lag what so ever. I can truly say that I'm happy with the performance.

Now on to the bad news. The right speaker on my x201 is dead also! I went through all of the sound settings just to make sure the right speaker wasn't muted and it wasn't. I'm thinking the Lenovo knuckle heads hooked the single left speaker as mono believing this was the proper setup for the x201. When I tested sound from left to right, all of the sound came from the left speaker. This leads me to believe that someone on the assembly line doesn't know how to discern the x201's with stereo speakers versus the x201's with the mono setup.

I really have mixed feelings about this issue being that I don't want to wait another 3 to 4 weeks for a replacement. I'm sure there is an easy DIY fix for this. Anyone have any ideas?

Well today is the day.. wait no, stupid UPS is failing again.

LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/18/2010 3:55 A.M. IMPORT SCAN

ANCHORAGE, AK, US 03/14/2010 8:21 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN

Looks like it's just going through a loop.. and of course the 3/18/2010 delivery date which was listed as "on time" has disappeared from their site.

That really sucks about the stereo speakers not working as they should. So basically it's not that there's one speaker hooked up as mono, there's just a left channel?

When I ordered the replacement for my X201s (which had a blanking screen problem...) I was told that I would be moved up. Based on what I can see, this never happened so I'm in the back of the list with all the new orders.

Hope you guys with the speaker issues do better than I did! Looks like I won't get mine til the first week in May. (ugh)...

Cheers,

It seems everyone who has x201 all have the same problem. I'm thinking maybe it is driver problem that doesn't activate the right speaker or there is something wrong with hardware. Hope lenovo can fix it as soon as possible and also hope it is software issue then we just need to update driver.

This is exactly why I'm waiting before I decide to return it to Lenovo. I believe this is a software issue versus a hardware issue. I'd rather keep my x201 to see how things pan out over the next month or two before asking for a replacement. Besides the right speaker being muted, everything else works perfectly.

Plus, I have a full 1 year warranty to return it if it’s not software and is determined that Lenovo needs to fondle my x201 to resolve the issue....

Only time will tell

My x201s apparently broke UPS. My x201s is going through customs in Kentucky, for the third time in three days. At least now there's a delivery date again, 3/22 (Monday). I like that they list it as "on time" even though it was originally scheduled to be delivered on the 15th, and yesterday was scheduled to be delivered today.

I think I might remove the link to the tracking from my bookmarks toolbar so that I can be pleasantly surprised when it finally arrives at the office.

You may want to contact UPS about that, I read somewhere on a forum thread that this may indicate trouble with your address, and the UPS computers are routing your package in circles as a result

I read that same discussion. Actually I did a google search for something along the lines of "ups import scan loop" and the first hit was a Lenovo-related blog rant :| , and somewhere in the results list was the discussion you mention.

It finally cleared last night, and departed Kentucky to go back to the west coast this afternoon:

LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/20/2010 4:24 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
LOUISVILLE, KY, US 03/19/2010 11:58 P.M. IMPORT SCAN
03/19/2010 10:54 P.M. THIS SHIPMENT IS WAREHOUSED UNTIL IT IS RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY / RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY. NOW IN-TRANSIT FOR DELIVERY

and now there's a scheduled delivery date again, of Monday. I wish I had the free time to call Lenovo and whine about my company's wasted money re: "2-day shipping"
