International Warranty Service on X201T

#1 Post by slewrate » Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:52 pm

Hi, I am planning to purchase the X201T through an international agent out of the US. One trouble is that they do not provide an international warranty service on the X201T anywhere outside the US. Does anyone have a good idea as to what would be the best option for warranty in this case?

hi....

we have over 15,000 IBM/Lenovo machines all over the world ( including Korea) in our company.......and form our/my experiance the only way you going to get 'international warranty' ; a VALID one is if YOU BUY IN USA , and buy 'warranty' at the time of purchase. We buy most of our laptops via (private link) via website directly from Lenovo.
Also , even though we are entitled to a number of 'discounts' volume and others , we hardly ever use them - mainly we pay 'normal price' so that we can RETURN" them if there is any "issues' at deliverytime...

Hope this helps

You can verify if international warranty is available for a particular machine type by going here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OOK-IWS#sw

Per Lenovo, "If the model does not have support in a specific overseas country, it would be necessary to have it serviced in the US. An example would be most of the Ideapad products which do not have international warranty. "

aau,,,,

Sory cannot tell you anything about "ideapad' .... as ALL our laptops = are T series or W series (BUSINESS USE) and our employee( me included) are 'limited' to WITHIN these models ONLY.

BTW....from what I know "lenovo only " Designed/maked these 'newer' product catagories eg ideadpad, Edge etc ,,,,, and IBM = still 'kinda' has design/managed product control...etc... as I beleive it will come a future time when ALL THINGS WILL BE TRANSFERED TO LENOVO!!..... thus > T & W series machines still carry the IBM WORLDWIDE WARRANTY, as before........ but then none one really KNOWS WHY Lenovo will be doing ........... :?:

The IdeaPad is only an example from Lenovo support. There are Thinkpad models that don't have international warranty simply because they are not marketed in a foreign country. x201/s are not going to have international support until they are released internationally. As the x201/s are released in each country, international support will abe available there.

I struggled several times with that too issue too. However what i had notice is that newer models are not listed with global warranty coverage at first, but later on are added up as they become available in those other markets.

If you still are going to purchase make sure it is not a CTO model, these will never covered outside.
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

I had just check a few models at the site aau007 mentioned above and the X201T seems to have already coverage worldwide. A remember a couple of years ago it was not that fast and it did distinctions on the CTO models.

CTOs are covered, as long as the base model type (the first 4 digits) are covered in general. However, there may be specific components that are not available if they are country specific.
