Intel AMT 4.2 Management Engine (ME) Firmware
Has anyone tried this?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-71137
The description of the says:
"Version 4.2.20.1036 (Fix) Fixed an issue where it might take 20 seconds more than usual on starting the computer."
I tried it, but now the laptop takes 20s more to start-up than before!
Has anyone tried it and experienced this problem?
I'm running Win 7 Professional 32 bit on an X301.
Can I downgrade the firmware?
Thanks

Re: Intel AMT 4.2 Management Engine (ME) Firmware
Actually, I don't use the AMT functions for my laptop (small company, everyone is the administrator of its own system).
I saw there is a chance to disable AMT in the BIOS.
Has anyone done that? Are there contra-indications?
Thanks
Edmond

I don't use AMT so changed to disabled in BIOS and if you don't use it there are no issues related to do so. If you ever decide you need it again just go to BIOS and enable. I never tried the firmware update though since i don't use AMT anyway so wouldn't bother upgrading the firmware.Edmond Dantes wrote:Actually, I don't use the AMT functions for my laptop (small company, everyone is the administrator of its own system).

Re: Intel AMT 4.2 Management Engine (ME) Firmware
Hi
@ Wiz: Have you tried to disable the AMT in a Thinkpad?
I read in the Intel web-site how to disable AMT, but it refers to a ME Bios, which can be accessed hitting Ctrl+P during the startup of the laptop. There, a password as admin of the ME-Bios is needed.
In my Thinkpad this seems not to be possible and, as Wiz says, I have an entry in the Bios, and I'm wondering if disabling AMT there is enough, or will I be taken to the ME-Bios, where I'm unsure what to do (do I need the admin password of the Intel Bios?).
Overall, I'm afraid doing something wrong, which will somehow lock me out of my system.
Can anyone help, please? After installing the new AMT firmware, I noticed that the system slows down at startup instead of being faster (as stated on Lenovo's site), and I want to get rid of AMT.
Regards
Edmond

Upon reading this topic, I DISabled my AMT in BIOS (my personal machine), weird, it look a hell lot of time to cold-start.
Re-enable it, the X starts to fly again. I wonder where it went wrong, oh well, never mind, its working fine and dandy again.

So, it seems that there is no way to get rid of this overhead.
Enablig or disabling it, AMT sits there taking resources at start-up.
In my opinion, it is wrong charging systems with loads of functionalities, which won't be used.
I hope this problems will be fixed in the next firmware releases....

Have you installed the intel matrix drivers?fooyc wrote:Upon reading this topic, I DISabled my AMT in BIOS (my personal machine), weird, it look a hell lot of time to cold-start.

When i disable AMT in the bios and have the matrix drivers installed then it takes a long time to start my thinkpad. If i don't install the drivers then the start-up time is 15-20 sec. less. Normally it takes about 25-30 sec to start, with matrix drivers installed it takes 40-50 sec.

Yes I did the Intel Matrix Driver, completely bog down the system during cold-start. Removed it eventually.

Re: Intel AMT 4.2 Management Engine (ME) Firmware
I saw that in control panel is listed COM3, which corresponds to Intel AMT - SOL.
Has Anyone tryied to disable it in Windows?
Is this enough, or do I have to disable AMT in Bios and in Windows?
Is there a "wrong" combination, which shall be avoided (Bios yes + Win no, etc.)?
As I wrote, this is a company Pc, and I would like to avoid any problem, such as being locked-out of the system.
Thank you and Regards

Re: Intel AMT 4.2 Management Engine (ME) Firmware
I believe I have that feature in my T400. I disabled it right away as soon as I found that I do not need it for my usage. I have not updated the firmware for something I do not use.
My T400 boots up fine.

I disabled it in BIOS and I removed the Intel AMT program from Windows. I've done this with the Vista Business it came on and the XP Pro SP3 I'm running now- they both work fine without it.Edmond Dantes wrote:Hi emeraldgirl08.

I think Intel AMT has to do with company security for employees and employer. I do not run a company nor do I have any employees working under me... I'm a college student.
