Stop hard drive rotation does not seem to work....

#1 Post by ajdedo » Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:32 am

Hi,

I installed a Seagate 500gb HD in to my x200s. (Seagate ST9500420ASG link)

In "Power Manager" I have my "Idle Timers" set to "Stop Hard Disk Rotation" in 3 minutes.... But it never does.

Are there any other settings I should be looking at?

Thanks.

Windows accesses the HDD fairly often in the background so it probably never gets a > 3 minute window when the HDD isn't accessed.

Yes, on your primary drive windows is always reading/writing something in the background.

On my desktop, the second internal HDD will spindown after the specified time very regularly. It is a backup drive and is almost never accessed unless I access it.

Yes, same on my T60 with 2nd HDD adapter in UltraBay.
