X200 CCFL or LED. How to tell?
X200 CCFL or LED. How to tell?
I'm looking for some nice X200 on eBay which I might buy and mod with Hydis AFFS panel.
From what I found here on the forum, you have to get a CCFL model for the mod to be possible. As most sellers on eBay don't specify what the backlight is, how do I find this out? I tried the machine/type query on Lenovo support page but it just says "12.1in 1280x800 LCD". Does that mean it's CCFL?
Thanks,
yak

Re: X200 CCFL or LED. How to tell?
You could do a parts lookup on the actual laptop and then look the resulting part number for the panel in HMM.
Alternatively, a quick and dirty way is to look at the warning label underneath the laptop. It will say something like the laptop contains a lamp which contains mercury if the panel is CCFL backlit. See this photo here:
http://www.notebookreview.com/picture.asp?f=34869
(You can verify the above by reference to the HMM.)
Finally, the value for "Hardware Ids" in the Details tab of Device Manager will tell you which panel you've got. If it's LEN4010 then it's a CCFL panel.
(From TPLCD.INF, the id for the LED backlit panel is LEN4011, and the IPS panel LEN4012. LEN4010 is simply described as 'TFT', but it makes sense that it's the id for the CCFL panel).

If you were to get the LED version, couldn't you use a LED version of the screen like the BOE-Hydis HV121WX6-100, which I think is used in the X200t?
